Fans of TV’s ‘Lost’ would most likely want to keep thinking of Josh Holloway as James Ford (that’s Sawyer to you, ‘Lost’ fanatic!) but he’s since moved on and found new footing on the big screen.
In the Benson Lee-directed movie “Battle Of The Year,” he stars as Jason Blake, a basketball coach who has lost his reason to live after his family dies in a car accident. Who knew he would find his mojo again coaching a dance crew this time, one competing against the most talented teams from across the globe for the most coveted title in hip hop culture.
Here are five things about Holloway that should put you up to speed:
Ridiculously good looking
It was said that Lee almost didn’t cast the actor in the role because he’s too good looking. Holloway responds, “I don’t see that!” He also insists, “I am a diverse person… Your package is what you are given and you work within those parameters and try to break free as much as you can. That’s what I do.”
The last time he danced for pleasure
Holloway loves Radiohead and admits to dancing in the rain during the band’s concert in Santa Barbara. “I love to dance but since ‘Lost’ and the creation of YouTube and everyone having a recording device, it’s smarter for me not to do that so I do not dance in public very much. I think I am pretty good at it but I am not going to put that up there for the world to judge! I had dreams of dancing in this movie until I saw the other guys and I was like, ‘Oh, no! That’s Olympic level’, so I put that dream away!”
Creating on the side
Aside from trying to land movie roles, he reveals, “I have actually started writing as well. I have got two scripts I’ve written and pitched a show the other day. It’s fun to create on that side as well, no matter where it goes.”
Staying in shape
The former high school basketball player says he gets bored with the gym. Aside from playing ball, he keeps in shape with boxing and martial arts. He adds, “I am outdoors all the time, snowboarding, hiking…”
Is he really anything like Sawyer?
Holloway won’t mind catching up on ‘Lost’ again himself. “I have forgotten what happened so it will be all fresh and new to me!” However, he declares he isn’t much like Sawyer at all. “I am pretty much too nice, if you will, too accommodating, according to my wife at least. And I am gentler. I am not a mean person, really… That was fun to play because I got to let that guy out.”
