“Da Da Da Dum, snap, snap, Da Da Da Dum…” It’s time to get those fingers ready to snap along as “The Addams Family: Musical” dances its way into the Meralco Theater this month.
Expect to recognize familiar characters of the “Addams Family,” based on famous cartoon strip by Charles Addams. He introduced this creepy yet enchanting family in The New Yorker magazine back in the 1930’s. From thereon, it has been adapted into television shows, films, video games and, now, a musical.
The play finds the Addams family’s lives disrupted when Gomez and Morticia Addams’ 18-year-old daughter, Wednesday, invites her straight-arrow Midwestern boyfriend Lucas Beineke and his parents, Mal and Alice, to the gloomy Gothic, Central Park mansion where they live.
The hit-musical debuted on Broadway in 2010 with Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth as Gomez and Morticia, respectively. The musical features book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice and a score by Andrew Lippa.
In Manila, Atlantis Productions spearheads the local rendition, with star personalities Arnel Ignacio and Eula Valdes as the dark-loving eerie couple. Bobby Garcia directs.
