More and more international celebrities expressed solidarity with the people of the Philippines as the country faces yet again another trying time brought about by super-typhoon “Yolanda” (international name: Haiyan).
Noted Fil-Am personalities sent in their love for their fellow kababayans affected in the Visayas region.
Singer Enrique Iglesias, son of Spanish singer Julio Iglesias whose mother Isabel Preysler is from the Philippines, took to his official website an appeal to help the country:
Through Mending Kids International (MKI), Fil-Am stars Mark Dacascos (“Hawaii 50”) and Nia Peeples (“Pretty Little Liars”) vowed help for typhoon-hit victims.
“Mabuhay Philippines! We love you. We will do everything we possibly can to help. Have hope,” said Dacascos in an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Hollywood correspondent Yong Chavez aired on “TV Patrol.”
The same interview also featured messages of sympathy from actor Mel Gibson and Gene Simmons of the band Kiss.
Mel Gibson: “I’m so sorry. God bless you. I hope you can put it back together. It’s been a tremendous loss of life… It’s hard to even to be able to say anything, any words of comfort even.”
Gene Simmons: “We’re gonna be doing some work to try to not just raise awareness but funds. Our hearts and our prayers go out to everybody (in the Philippines).”
Fil-Mexican Jessica Sanchez will be performing on a live streaming event for the benefit of the Yolanda victims.
The “American Idol” runner-up, who has been in the country twice, posted on her Facebook page:
Fil-Canadian and YouTube sensation Maria Aragon, on the other hand, has dedicated a song to fellow Filipinos. According to the 13-year-old singer, she has relatives affected by the recent typhoon.
“This is really something that hit me when I first heard the news because I have family in the Philippines who live in the area that has been affected by the typhoon. It is still going on right now which is super terrible. I couldn’t imagine living in that situation,” was part of Aragon’s message in the five-minute-37-seconder clip.
As an offering of comfort, she sang an acoustic version of her song “You Are Enough.”
“I couldn’t imagine living in that situation. I’m not a social activist but I’m a musician and if I could give one thing to you guys, it would be my music… I hope that (my song) provides some comfort to you and I really just want to say if you guys are affected by what’s going on right now, please, please stay strong. We are all praying for you. I really just want to send my love and support to you guys,” Aragon said.

Local celebs, meanwhile, continue to raise money for their fellow kababayans. Anne Curtis, for one, raised some P370,000 from her impromptu garage sale last Sunday. The Kapamilya host-actress is also set to waive her talent fee from her Nov. 15 “AnneBisyosa” show in Doha, Qatar.
“Sa ating mga kababayan po diyan sa Qatar, Doha, nandiyan po ako para sa ‘AnneBisyosa: No Other Concert.’ Please come and join kasi ‘yung buong talent fee ko po doon ay ido-donate ko na po. And also the producers agreed po that some of the portion from the tickets that will be sold will be donated also,” she said on “Kris TV.”
KC Concepcion has also donated P5 million to the Yolanda victims, as told by Kris Aquino reveals in “Kris TV’s” Wednesday episode.
Aquino, for her part, earlier asked her viewers on the morning show to pray with her a Prayer for the Philippines, composed by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas.
The prayer, which she said was translated into Filipino, asks mercy from God to spare the Philippines from “more typhoons and storms and earthquakes.” The Presidential sister also asked help to join her in relief operations intended for the victims of Yolanda.
