Originally planned as a regular show for a much later date, Lani Misalucha’s “Queen of the Night” is now a special benefit concert whose proceeds will go in part to victims of typhoon Yolanda.
This was announced by the 44-year-old singer dubbed as Asia’s Nightingale in a recent press conference held at Solaire Resort & Casino where the show will take place.
“Mabuti na lang napaaga na rin and we hope that people will still come even with such short notice as we do want to give more help to the victims of the disaster,” Lani told InterAksyon and other entertainment media during the media gathering.
Lani said she is very much aware that her fellow artists in the music industry are also doing their share to provide relief for the typhoon victims with shows and are astonished by this extraordinary show of unity.
“Ang galing, ano? It’s a good feeling knowing that almost everyone is here to help in their own way. It will go a long way in alleviating the morale of the people in disaster-stricken areas,” she pointed out.
“Alam naman natin na ang Pilipino, sanay sa bagyo, sanay sa hirap, sanay sa wala, maraming bagay pinipilit kayanin. Pero pag naririnig mo yung biktima na nawalan ng mga mahal sa buhay na nagsasabing gusto na nilang sumuko, gusto nang mawalan ng pag-asa, ibig sabihin grabe na talaga yung nangyari.”
With her concert, Lani hopes to do her share to make things better or at least more bearable for the calamity survivors.
“At least, alam ng mga manonood na may patutunguhan yung proceeds ng concert,” she said.
Lani admits that given the little time she had to prepare, her repertoire for the concert slated for November 20 at the Solaire Grand Ballroom will not be much different from her usual set lists. But given that she’s now based in Las Vegas and only performs in the country from time to time, she hopes her show will still feel fresh in the hearts of audiences who rarely see her perform.
And because there was not much time to prepare and most performers are busy with their own benefit shows, Lani will essentially be performing a one-woman show which she doesn’t mind at all as she actually prefers this more intimate connection with her audience.
“Hindi na rin bago sa ‘kin ito. Mas exciting, actually,” she quipped.
Lani said she may still have more shows after “Queen of the Night” as she will spend Christmas and New Year in the country before returning to Las Vegas. She also revealed that her extended stay will also allow her to prepare for a new studio album.
“My last recording was way back in 2008 so yes, I’d like to record again. My original plan was to record an album of all new original songs, yung kakaiba sana sa pandinig or mga bagong genre na hindi ko pa nae-explore. But because of time constraints na rin, I’ve decided to record an album of covers of OPM classic songs.”
As for the OPM songs that she herself popularized which include hits like Jimmy Borja’s “Ang Iibigin ay Ikaw”, Vehnee Saturno’s “Tunay Na Mahal” and Jimmy Antiporda’s “Malaya Ka Na”, Lani was asked if there is any one song that she would like to dedicate to the typhoon victims. She readily answered Liza Diy’s “Tila” from 2003.
When requested to sing some lines from the song, Asia’s Nightingale obliged with an impromptu a capella rendition that raised goose bumps when she sang the refrain, “Tila hihina rin ang ulan/Tila lilipas din ang bagyo/Liliwanag din ang kalangitan/
At ang araw ay sisikat nang muli…”
