The Killers is holding its first major concert in the country tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “The Killers Live In Manila” is part of the band’s world tour to promote its latest album “Battle Born.”
The Killers started in 2001 when vocalist and keyboardist Brandon Flowers was dumped by his first band, a Las Vegas synthrop trio called Blush Response, until he was inspired to join a rock band after watching Oasis perform live. He soon responded to a newspaper ad placed by David Keuning, a 25-year-old guitarist, and the pair hit it off right away and began writing songs together and touring Las Vegas. They were joined by drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and bass player Mark Stoermer in 2002 to complete the present lineup of The Killers.
From 2008 to 2010, The Killers was on the road for a global tour for “Day & Age,” which became a huge success until its cancellation with the death of Brandon Flowers’ mother in February 2010. The band took an indefinite break during which the four members devoted themselves to solo projects. The Killers regrouped one-and-half years later to work on its fourth studio album, “Battle Born,” released in September 2012.
“The Killers Live In Manila” is produced by Ovation Productions and presented by PLDT Fibr in cooperation with Lenovo, 2nd Avenue, Diva Universal, Jack TV, Jack City and Sixt Rent A Car. EK Launches 1st Int’l Wizardry Fireworks Contest
On its 18th anniversary, Enchanted Kingdom launches the 1st International Sky Wizardry Fireworks Competition. EK has been conducting its annual Asian Sky Wizardry Fireworks Competition since 2010, and for this year, the country’s premiere theme park goes international with participating countries such as the USA, Canada, Spain, Malta and China.
The 1st International Sky Wizardry Fireworks Competition will kick-off its elimination rounds on Sept. 28 and 29, 2013, which will be participated by local fireworks manufacturers. The eliminations will continue on Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13. The finals will be held on Oct. 19 from 7-9 p.m.

THE WINNERS of the 2013 CineFilipino Film Festival
Two Films Hailed Best At CineFilipino Filmfest
There was supposed to be just one winner of the Best Picture award at the 2013 CineFilipino Film Festival, but two entries won the same points. After discussing about it, the jurors conferred the Best Picture award to “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti” starring Nora Aunor and directed by Mes De Guzman, and “Ang Huling Cha-Cha Ni Anita,” starring Teri Malvar and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. Each film won P500,000.
There were eight official entries to the CineFilipino Film Festival from about 2,000 screenplays submitted. Each entry was given a grant of P1.5 million. The film fest was a collaboration among TV5, Mediaquest, PLDT Smart Foundation and Unitel Productions.
Vincent R. Nebriada, festival director, said the festival “forges the true spirit of independent filmmaking.”
Emmanuel C. Lorenzana, TV5 president and CEO, said that the festival was “dedicated primarily to the Filipino movie audience for whom, we hope, the films would resonate in some aspects of their lives…”
