Jason Paul Laxamana’s “Babagwa (The Spider’s Lair),” is set to premiere at this years’ 29th Warsaw International Film Festival in Poland.

The Alex Medina starrer will compete under the Warsaw International Film Festival Competition 1-2 section.

As described by Laxamana on Warsaw International Film Festival’s official website: “The film is the result of three things: hearing the stories of friends who got deceived by people posing as beautiful people online, encountering people who happen to moonlight as online scammers, and personally seeing what it feels like to live as a different person online for about half a year.”

“Babagwa” revolves around the story of lies that people create in order to trick unsuspecting victims. An Internet scammer named Greg (Alex Medina) uses a fake Facebook account to trick people into depositing money into his bank account. Assuming the persona of a fictitious guy named Bam (Kiko Matos), Greg flirts with Daisy (Alma Concepcion), a filthy rich woman he meets online. In time, he falls in love with her.

Prior, the film will also be screened on Oct. 16 and 19 at the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) where it will compete for the Halekulani Golden Orchid Award in the Narrative Category.

Also, the film has already been invited to be screened in a couple of international film festivals, including Vancouver International Film Festival in Canada in the Dragons and Tigers Award for Young Cinema Competition.
