Dingdong Dantes has finally renewed his contract with GMA Network, ending network transfer speculations that have hounded him since their previous one expired last August. The prized actor-producer, now dubbed as Kapuso Primetime King, will be staying with the network for five more years.
Calling the renewal a “rebirth of my commitment,” Dingdong thanked GMA-7, which has been his home for 15 years now. “This is the place where I started everything, where I spent half of my lifetime and I’m grateful na patuloy pa din ang tiwala nila sa akin,” the 33-year-old actor said.
Dingdong lauded the support he getsfrom GMA, saying that “beyond (just) being a company, (it is) a network and a house that hones my talents but I see it as a home where my heart truly belongs to.”
With Dingdong during the contract signing held Saturday at the Manila Polo Club were GMA Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Felipe S. Yalong, GMA President and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto Duavit, Jr., GMA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Atty. Felipe L. Gozon and GMA Entertainment TV’s Officer-in-Charge Lilybeth G. Rasonable and the actor’s manager Perry Lansigan.
Gozon regards Dingdong as living proof that GMA can hone talents fit to be “King” and “Queen” (perhaps pertaining to Dingdong’s girlfriend, Marian Rivera, who has also renewed her network contract). Duavit, for his part, vowed continuous support to Dingdong. He even kidded, “Nandito pa din kami para mag-abay (sa kasal mo).”
Being the network’s King is more than a gift for Dingdong. “It’s overwhelming that I have this commitment to them kaya siguro uunahin ko muna ito. Sa ngayon ito ang pinakamahalagang bagay sa akin,” he said, dismissing rumors of settling down soon.
He revealed that Marian has something to do with his decision to remain Kapuso. “We work separately. Hindi namin bina-base ang desisyon namin sa isa’t-isa,” he stressed, adding “But she’s very happy (that I’m still here as a Kapuso). She needs someone beside her.”
In the next five years, Dingdong will be a hands-on talent to the network, meaning, he has a say on all of his projects. He will also a have a yearly TV special and will go abroad for GMA Pinoy TV events.
Choosing not to discuss further about his contract details, Dingdong said, “The important thing is the commitment that we both have – that we will collaborate in pursuing my dreams and pursuing what is best for the network.”
Dingdong is wrapping up work on a movie with Bea Alonzo. He is also gearing for another Kapuso primetime series, “Genesis,” where he will play the role of a cynic PSG (Presidential Security Group) member, who comes across a special mission.
