Teri Malvar as Anita and Angel Aquino as Pilar in ‘Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita’
Newbie actors clinched the top acting plums at the first CineFilipino Film Festival held Sunday at the Genting Club of Resorts World Manila.
The 13-year-old Teri Malvar edged out veteran actress Nora Aunor (“Ang Kuwento Ni Mabuti”) in winning the Best Actress award for her performance as a young lesbian in Sigrid Andra P. Bernardo’s “Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita.”
Bernardo’s film also bagged the Best Acting Ensemble award, the Best Supporting Actress award for Angel Aquino, and was conferred Best Film, along with Mes de Guzman’s “Ang Kuwento Ni Mabuti.”
Meanwhile, Karl Medina, the eldest son of acclaimed actor Pen Medina, nabbed the Best Actor trophy. The young Medina portrayed the role of writer-activist Jose Maria “Joma” Sison in Sari and Kiri Dalena’s “The Guerilla Is A Poet.” The narrative film also received trophies for Bong Cabrera (Best Supporting Actor), Raffy Magsaysay (Best Musical Score) and Keith Sicat (Best Film Editing).

The festival’s highest grossing film “Ang Kuwento Ni Mabuti” copped the awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay for de Guzman.
Mike Alcazaren’s “Puti” got honors for three technical prizes – Best Sound for Mark Laccay, Best Production Design for Rious Caliso and Best Cinematography for Roberto Yñiguez.
In the short film category, Pamela L. Reyes’ “Ligaw” reigned over nine other entries, with “Logaritmo” by Kimberly M. Ocariza and “Sangandaan” by Jose Ibarra E. Guballa and Bienvenido Ferrer III winning second and third prize, respectively.
