“Ang Tag-araw ni Twinkle” — one of the most highly anticipated entries in the National Film Festival All Masters Edition — met a rapturous reception at its gala premiere on Friday at SM Megamall Cinema 7.
Director Gil M. Portes’ coming-of-age film starring relative newcomer Ellen Adarna as a daughter of communist parents raised by an Army officer engaged the full-house audience from start to finish with its unique story of redemption and reckoning. The bittersweet ending was greeted with warm applause.
In attendance besides Direk Gil and Ellen were cast members Arnold Reyes, Marc Acueza, Yan Yuzon and Pinky Amador as well members of the creative and technical staff led by screenwriter Eric Ramos.
Portes’ colleagues, such as fellow master directors Joel Lamangan and Mel Chionglo, director Mike Sandejas, actress-screenwriter Raquel Villavicencio, actresses Maria Isabel Lopez and Mara Lopez, and talent manager Manny Valera also came to lend their support.
“Ang Tag-araw ni Twinkle” is one of 10 new films by veteran filmmakers that will be exhibited in the festival organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and SM Cinema. It will open in SM theaters nationwide on September 11.
