Marian Rivera is so good in drama that people tend to forget she is also good in other genres like comedy.

Starring in the action-comedy-flick “Kung-Fu Divas,” moviegoers anticipate how the 29-year-old actress would fare in acting alongside Philippines’ Comedy Concert Queen Ai Ai delas Alas. Given Marian’s experiences in comedy on television like “Tweets for My Sweet” and “Show Me The Manny” among others and movies like “Desperadas,” “Super Inday and the Golden Bibe” and her most recent romantic-comedy “My Lady Boss” to mention a few, it’s almost sure she’d be at par with her co-star.

“Siguro nakatulong sa akin na kalog talaga akong tao kaya hindi mahirap sa aking magpatawa,” said Marian, who didn’t have formal training in acting.

The actress attributes her big break to Antonio Tuviera, producer and head of TAPE, Inc.

“Isinalang ako ni Mr. Tuviera na walang workshop. Naniwala siya sa akin at through my past experiences nagawa ko ng tamang acting yung mga eksena. Importante ang workshops at alam kong makakatulong siya. Pero sa akin, ang mga experiences ko sa buhay ang ginamit ko at kung papaano ko na-apply yun sa mga eksena at sa pagiging komedyante. Right timing lang,” she explained.

Veteran actors- comedians and her co-stars in “Kung-Fu Divas,” Nova Villa and Roderick Paulate speak highly of Marian’s comedic skills. Paulate even likens Marian to his best friend, awarded actress Maricel Soriano.

He shared, “Nagkasama kami sa ‘Tweets for my Sweet’ and during our workshops, nasabi ko sa director namin doon na natural comedian pala si Yan Yan. Maraming magagaling na artista, maraming nagdradrama, tapos sumusubok, may talent, sa pagpapatawa. Si Yan Yan, hindi ko akalain na natural na komedyante. Ang hindi alam ng mga tao na kahit behind the camera, natural siya!”

“Kung Fu Divas” is about two bitter rivals in “Hiyas ng Dalampasigan” beauty pageant namely Charlotte (Ai Ai) and Samantha (Marian), who will be forced to become allies after an unexpected turn of events that put many lives in danger.

“Kung-Fu Divas” director Onat Diaz said, “Marian here is looking for herself. She is looking for her soul at ang lola naman niya is Madam Gluta (Nova Villa) isang manghuhula na may short term memory. She is looking for something in her life na hindi niya alam and no one can help her because may short term memory yung kasama niya.”

Also in the cast of “Kung Fu Divas” are Edward Mendez, Bianca Manalo, Precious Lara Quigaman and Gloria Diaz.

“Sa trailer makikita lagi kaming may Kung-Fu, mga fight scenes, pero maaantig ang mga puso ng mga manunuod kasi may kwento si Ate Ai tungkol sa pamilya niya, may kwento ako tungkol sa pagkatao ko, mga insecurities ko rito, bawat tao rito may kanya-kanyang kwento, pinaghalo na namin yan may drama, may comedy may Kung-Fu, uuwi sila na tinatanong ang sarili nila, ano bang Kung-Fu diva meron ang pagkatao ko,” said Marian.
