With only two days to go before the coronation night of this year’s Miss World beauty pageant in Indonesia, things are looking good for Philippine representative Megan Young.
Considered one of the favorites to win the coveted crown out of 127 candidates from all over the world, Megan is ranked number two in Miss World’s online voting as of Thursday.
If she manages to dislodge Miss Gibraltar Maroua Kharbouch from the number one slot come coronation night on Saturday, Megan would be declared the People’s Champion and will go straight into the final six of the hotly contested pageant.
Her online votes, however, are not the only thing going in Megan’s favor. The towering 23-year-old Fil-Am actress from Olongapo City has also figured prominently in two of the beauty contest’s most important competitions or “fast track challenges” as they are also popularly referred to.
Looking good in a Balinese sarong, Megan was voted in the Top 11 of the Beach Fashion challenge, this year’s substitute for the swimsuit competition. She also landed in the Top 10 of the Top Model challenge after gracefully parading in an elegant gown created by Indonesian princess and fashion designer Ayu Mirah Suardhana.
Even with these achievements, Megan still faces strong competition, particularly from two candidates who also did well in the challenges. There’s Miss Italy Sarah Baderna who also made it to the Top 11 of the Beach Fashion challenge and was part of the winning group of 5 in the Sports and Fitness Challenge.
And then, there’s the host country’s candidate, Miss Indonesa Vania Larissa, who won the Talent competition and is also in the Top 11 of the Beach Fashion challenge.
Last year’s winner, Yu Wenxia of China, was also from the host country and also topped the Talent challenge.
Will history repeat for the second straight year? Or will the beautiful actress who recently starred in TV5’s sexy drama series “Misibis Bay” and the Ely Buendia-directed segment of the indie crime thriller trillogy “Bang Bang Alley” finally give the Philippines its first ever Miss World crown?
It will certainly help Megan’s cause if her supporters will download the Miss World 2013 app at the official site of Miss World (www.missworld.com) and give her all the votes she’ll need to propel her straight into the pageant’s finale on Saturday.
