The flood-stricken Hagonoy, Bulacan is Megan Young’s subject for her “Beauty With A Purpose” (BWAP) project, which was uploaded by the Miss World organizers on their official website.

As posted on the Miss World Philippines, the BWAP “is also the name of a special annual award programme that singles out and recognises the Miss World contestant who is shown, through charitable works, to have made a real difference to people in need in her homeland.”

The Pinay representative is shown on her BWAP presentation giving relief to people in Bulacan, which was hit by typhoon back in August. Young was accompanied by Miss World Philippines licensee Cory Quirino.

“My coronation night last August 18 was probably one of the best moments in my life… but at the same time, my fellow countrymen are experiencing in their lives… something that traumatized them that left them hopeless, homeless… Now I want to share that glory with them (flood victims). I want to see that smile I had on my face on their faces as well,” Young said in her two-minute video.

Holding what she referred to as “bag of hope” containing relief goods, the 23-year-old TV host-actress continued, “As a Filipina, I want to see them (flood victims) with hope in their eyes. And I want to see them strive and look at tomorrow as a brighter day.”

“This (‘bag of hope’) is what’s going to touch their hearts, what’s going to put that twinkle in their eyes and make them think that tomorrow is going to be a better day,” Young ended.

The BWAP special award will secure Young’s spot in the semifinals of this year’s Miss World pageant slated to conclude on Sept. 28.

As announced on the pageant’s website, only the sports finalists and top 11 beach fashion contestants – for which Young is a finalist – have been named. “Many of our judges have not yet arrived here in Bali, so the majority of the judging process, including for the Beauty with a Purpose Award, has not even begun yet. All results (preliminary and winners) will be announced here FIRST at missworld.com, or live on air at the Miss World Final on the 28th of September,” it said.

Young was also chosen to perform the singkil dance for the Dances of the World at the Miss World coronation night.
