‘Banana Split’ cast comes home from rattled Bohol; Celebs call to ‘#PrayForVisayas’

The cast and crew of “Banana Split” called off their anniversary special episode in Bohol following the destructive 7.2-magnitude earthquake that rocked parts of Visayas on Tuesday.

Comedians Jayson Gainza, Ryan Bang, Angelica Panganiban and Alex Gonzaga, who experienced the quake first-hand, have arrived safe and sound in Manila.

“Nagpapasalamat din kami talaga dahil kahit may mga nasaktan at hindi naman din ganon talaga kadami, so, kahit papano nakakapagpalubag loob na konti lang ‘yung mga nasaktan,” said Angelica in a report aired on “Umagang Kay Ganda.”

“Nu’ng tumatakbo ako, isa lang nasa isip ko – ayoko pang mamatay,” she added.

Alex, for her part, credited her faith for keeping them “covered” amid the powerful earthquake.

“God is good! Our faith will not be shaken by this earthquake! Lord Jesus Christ you will protect us. We are covered by your grace!

“7.2 earthquake but sorry I have a bigger and stronger God!” read her tweets.

The team, who just had their breakfast at a resort near the coastline of Tagbilaran City, was inside a bus when the earthquake rocked the province.

“Bigla na lang may umuuga, parang may lumindol na. Akala namin may nagbibiro lang sa bus. Nakikita namin ‘yung iba (sa labas), may nakaluhod, ‘yung iba nakadapa, may sumisigaw, ‘Lindol, lindol, lindol,’” Gainza recounted.

In a video clip he sent to ABS-CBN News, the team was seen rushing out of the bus to join the people in the open area. He also caught on video a collapsed portion of the resort where they briefly stayed.

During their ordeal, Ryan managed to tweet his last words should anything bad happen.

“Kahit mamatay ako ngayon mahal ko kayo lahat ng filipino at mommy ko at tatay ko salamat sa lahat,” he posted.

The “Banana Split” cast and crew temporarily stayed in an open area near the Tagbilaran City Hall while waiting for the chopper to pick them.

Pray for Visayas

Far from the energetic and dancing Madlang People during the opening of the show, “It’s Showtime” on Tuesday offered a moment of silence to pray for the earthquake victims.

“Let’s pray for their safety, at sana po huwag na pong masundan iyan ng mga aftershock,” said mainstay host Anne Curtis.

Other celebrities also sent their sympathy on Twitter, making #PrayForVisayas the top trending topic.

“Sending much love and prayers to the Philippines right now after the devastating earthquake,” tweeted Fil-Am singer Jessica Sanchez.

Cebuana Kim Chiu, on the other hand, posted a photo collage of destructed iconic churches in Bohol – Baclayon, Dauis, Loay, Loboc and Loon – with the caption of a prayer, using her native language.
