CineFilipino goes to UP Diliman this November

Just like the ongoing extended run of the Sineng Pambansa National Film Festival All Masters Edition at the Shangri-La Cineplex, another recently concluded film festival will have its own scheduled re-screenings next month.

From November 19 to 23, the CineFilipino film festival will have another theatrical run at UP Diliman, most likely at the 800-seater Cine Adarna Theater. The festival is a joint undertaking of the PLDT-Smart Foundation, MediaQuest, Studio 5 and Unitel Entertainment.

This was revealed to InterAksyon by CineFilipino festival director Vincent Nebrida who added that complete details and screening schedules will be posted at the festival’s website and Facebook page by the end of the coming week.

“I’m just happy that there’ll be another opportunity for the audiences to catch what they missed during the September run, and for others the chance to revisit the films they have already seen,” Nebrida added.

Nebrida did not specify if the UP screenings will be limited to the eight feature film entries or if it will also include the 10 short films that were also in competition at the film festival that took place last month.

Reviews for the participating films, particularly Mes De Guzman’s “Ang Kuwento ni Mabuti”, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s “Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita”, Sari and Kiri Dalena’s “The Guerrilla Is A Poet”, Mike Alcazaren’s “Puti” and Randolph Longjas’ “Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin”, were generally favorable.

As the festival’s box office hit, Mes De Guzman’s “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti” also earned an extended one-week screening in two theaters immediately after the festival.

Pleased with the very good quality of the competing films, TV5 president and CEO Noel C. Lorenzana and Unitel Entertainment’s president and general manager Madonna Tarrayo earlier told InterAksyon that they hope to stage CineFilipino again next year.

“Judging by the quality of the output, the reaction of the people, let’s do this again. It means pushing forward with the industry,” Lorenzana said during the CineFilipino awards night at Resorts World Manila.

“We really love the quality of the submissions and not just the accepted eight films. Yes, we’d love to continue doing this in the years to come,” Tarrayo echoed.
