Inday Barretto refutes Gretchen’s charge of jewel theft, calls her ‘the devil’

Estrella “Inday” Barretto has refuted her daughter Gretchen’s allegation that she stole a piece of expensive jewelry from a famous jewelry store many years ago.

Gretchen made the accusation on Instagram last week in an exchange of messages with an Instagram user with the handle @bullygretchen. The actress implied in her messages that she believes the Instagram user is her own mother, with whom she has been feuding after she and her father sided with their youngest daughter Claudine in the long-running Barretto clan war.

In her Instagram posts about the alleged theft, Gretchen said: “…remember miladay jewelry store? When you were hanging out a lot there & pretending you would help sell the jewelry? An expensive piece got lost do you remember where you kept that missing piece?

“It was a big issue where that missing jewelry went. Miladay even got a manghuhula to try & find out where that piece went. I guess it’s time the dayrits find out.”

Mrs. Barretto thinks Gretchen is simply out to slander her name.

“Clearly, the motive is defamation of character, implying that I stole a piece of jewelry!” the elder Barretto said in a text message to News5 on Monday.

Mrs. Barretto said she couldn’t have stolen something that belonged to her.

“I owned that piece of jewelry — part of the number I had made to order from Miladay Store! One piece went missing before it could be turned over formally to me! It was found and returned to me later on!” she said.

Mrs. Barretto questioned Gretchen’s recollection of what transpired.

“This story happened more than 30 years ago, by the way, when the devil was still a little girl! Hahaha,” she concluded.
