Mariel Rodriguez has defended her husband Robin Padilla’s recent Instagram post that showed a digitally-altered photo of Senate President Franklin Drilon.

The photo, which was re-posted by Rodriguez on her Instagram account, drew negative comments from several netizens.

In an interview on TV5’s “Aksyon,” she said, “May mga ibang tao, nag-re-react. It was so rude daw to post (the photo). Rude talaga? Eh sabi ko sorry for being ‘rude.’ Rude din naman ’yung ginagawa…(na) nagbabayad tayo ng buwis tapos… ’di ba? Nagkakalabasan na.”

Recall that on Instagram, Padilla challenged the lawmaker to step down from his post. Part of his caption read: “Oras na para sa tunay na pagbabago at pagkapilipino”

Seemingly referring to Drilon’s admission that he received a P100 million from the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) of the Department of Budget and Management after the conviction of former Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012, Rodriguez said: “You should practice what you preach. Kung ikaw, nagsi-sentensiya ka sa mga tao na dapat pagbayaran yung mga nagawang mga mali, dapat ikaw rin. You shouldn’t be exempted from that, ’di ba?”

Drilon, then Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary when Padilla was sentenced to jail for illegal possession of three firearms, clarified that “Padilla got it all wrong,” saying he used the fund in question for an infrastructure project in Iloilo.

Now that she has spoken up on the matter, Rodriguez feels wary.

“Kaya nu’ng papunta ako dito (TV5 studio) tumitingin-tingin ako sa traffic,” she remarked.

She claimed, “Marami namang who feel the same, but they’re just afraid (to speak),” said she.
