Many were touched the segment of the world famous Loboc Children’s Choir on ABS-CBN primetime newscast “TV Patrol” on Thursday.
It is said that the news team covering quake-hit Bohol was tapped by the children in order to express their message of hope on national TV amid the devastation.
The choir sung “The Prayer” in front of the ruins of the collapsed Loboc Church, where they used to sing. They also made a call for unity and to keep the faith.
“Naiyak ako dun. Salamat sa kanta at mensahe, Loboc Children’s Choir. #TvPatrol,” posted singer Zsa Zsa Padilla on Twitter.
Dean Tony La Viña added, “I cried listening to and watching this. Actually, not so much because of the singing, as beautiful and angelic…”
The group was also featured on Qatar-based news channel Al Jazeera English, saying they will keep on singing to inspire the Filipinos to rise above the tragedy.
“The church is just a symbol. The unity of the people here to be able to rise and recover, that is the real church,” said Carmelle Mae Inson, member of the Loboc Children’s Choir.
The Vietnam-bound choir has performed around the globe and brought home several awards from international choir tilts. Locally, the group has won three national champion prizes (1993, 1995 and 2001) in the National Musical Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). They were also honored with the Best Group Performance in a Concert plum at the 21st Aliw Awards in 2008.
