Two days after actress Angel Locsin took to Twitter and Instagram to confirm reports that they had ended their relationship, football player Phil Younghusband did the same and issued his own statement Sunday afternoon.
Echoing her official statement, the Philippine Azkals’ premier striker said the break-up was “a mutual decision” and thanked fans “for all your support throughout our relationship”, which became official on May 27, 2012 after a year-long courtship.
“Neither of us regret the time we spent together, we enjoyed each other’s company and really made the most of it. There are no faults in this, it was not an issue of who did or didn’t do something, it was a mutual decision and although it was difficult we just both felt that this would be the best thing to do given our circumstances,” he said.
Younghusband, 26, who started his courtship of Locsin with a tweet asking her out on Valentine’s Day in 2011, assured fans that they had parted amicably.
“Although we have parted as a couple, we are thankful that we remain friends and we only wish the best for each other,” he said.
On Friday, Locsin broke her silence and asked her fans for understanding as she declined to reveal the reason for the split. “Sana po maintindihan n’yo kung hindi na po namin sasabihin ang dahilan…pero maayos po kaming naghiwalay,” she said in her statement.
The 24-year-old actress also thanked the fans for following the relationship on Twitter where it started in the first place.
“Salamat po sa lahat ng sumubaybay at sumuporta sa journey namin ni Phil lalo na ho dito sa twitter. Hinding-hindi po namin malilimutan,” she concluded.
