Premiere of new TV5 drama ‘The Gift’ postponed due to PBA finals

Ogie Alcasid’s new drama series will no longer premiere on Monday, October 14, as originally scheduled.

TV5 will unwrap “The Gift” after the conclusion of the PBA Governors Cup championship series between the San Mig Coffee Mixers and the Petron Blaze Boosters. The best-of-seven series begins on Friday, October 13.

TV5 will share the PBA’s broadcast load with affiliate sports channel AKTV, a blocktimer on IBC-13.

“TV5 had to re-program primetime due to entry of PBA finals starting this Sunday. We chose to save ‘The Gift’ for future airing and still keep a balance offering of drama, interactive game, and sports on primetime,” the network said in an official statement.

A press conference for show scheduled for Wednesday was postponed indefinitely on Tuesday night.

Originally, “The Gift” was supposed to be a part of TV5′s new primetime slate for the fourth quarter of the year, beginning October 14. It was meant to fill the second slot at 7:30PM, right after Sharon Cuneta’s TV series debut “Madam Chairman” at 7PM.

Directed by Michael Tuviera, “The Gift” follows the story of a musician who became an instant father to the orphaned child of the woman he considers the love of his life.The series also stars Nadine Samonte, Arci Muñoz, Ara Mina, Leo Martinez, Candy Pangilinan and Joshen Bernardo.

TV5 has yet to clarify how the PBA Finals will affect the new weeknight programming, especially Aga Muhlach’s game show debut, “Let’s Ask Pilipinas”, which is supposed to be set for 8PM, Mondays to Fridays.
