Raymart Santiago wants to remind the parents of estranged wife Claudine Barretto of their old promise to him that they would get their daughter treated for substance abuse.
The actor issued this message on Wednesday through his lawyer, Ruth Castelo. It was part of his point-by-point rebuttal of the issues raised by Claudine against him the day before — that her parents had been aware of her dependence on prohibited drugs and had vowed to provide medical help.
“Ang sabi ni Raymart, ipaalala lang daw sa parents niya ‘yung pinag-usapan nila noon. Panindigan nila kung ano ‘yung ikinomit nila kay Raymart noon, na tutulungan si Claudine, ipapagamot para maayos ‘yung buhay niya,” Atty. Castelo said.
This was Santiago’s response to Barretto’s claim that she was not a drug addict as he had alleged in the counter-affidavit he filed last week against her complaint of physical, verbal, psychological and economic abuse against him at the Marikina Regional Trial Court.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Barretto presented negative results of two separate drug tests she had taken, one in October 2011 and another in April 2013. She and her father Miguel then dared Santiago to get himself tested as well.
Atty. Castelo dismissed this challenge and claimed that Santiago has no vice all.
“He does not drink, he does not smoke, he does not take drugs. He gets a lot exercise, he’s physically fit. He will definitely not do damage to himself by taking drugs, so he’s willing to undergo testing anytime,” she said of her client.
Atty. Castelo likewise refuted the allegation of Barretto’s lawyers that Santiago had violated the Anti-Wiretapping Law by conniving with household help to secretly videotape her.
Santiago has claimed to possess a number of incriminating videos of his estranged wife committing various indiscretions. In his counter-affidavit, he attached one such video of Barretto purportedly injecting herself with a prohibited substance, which her lawyers claimed on Tuesday was only her “beauty secret”, a local anesthetic for her skin care.
“Dun sa videos na inattach namin sa counter affidavit, there was no [communication involved]. It was showing action after action. Walang usapan, walang communication, walang kausap, so there is no anti-wiretapping violation,” Atty. Castelo said.
The lawyer said Santiago declined to be interviewed for the cameras because he did not want the couple’s two children to see him making serious accusations against their mother.
“Ayaw na niya palakihin ‘yung issue dahil syempre inaalala rin niya, kahit papaano naging asawa din naman niya si Claudine, ‘yung mga anak niya baka napapanood. Gusto na niyang tumigil,” Atty. Castelo concluded.
