Those crazy film addicts

Today we’re gonna watch movies non-stop from 7 a.m. to midnight but no standing, no sleeping, no bathroom breaks, no SMS and no taking or making calls while the films are being shown, no yawning, no coughing, no stretching, and no slouching (sit in military position – or else!). Breathing is allowed (at least for now). Clear? Ok, ENJOY.

These were the rules laid out during the 4th annual Star Movies’ Movie Marathon held Oct. 8 at the Newport Cinema in Resorts World Manila. About 300 people were selected among 50,000 entries to take the challenge. In line with the military theme, “Saving Private Ryan,” “Enemy at the Gates” and the likes that are usually aired on Fox International Channels were shown. Doing military exercises (e.g. squats) were permitted while watching.

At the end of the day (and that’s no cliché), the P150,000 cash prize and DeVant speaker and TV system was won by Ana Marie Bacul, 32, from Butuan City, who out-“watched” about 41 last men standing.

“Salamat na lang po dun sa mga supporters ko, ‘yung mga bouncers, kasi sila ‘yung nagsasabi sa akin na ‘Tiisin mo pa…inhale-exhale.’ Ang sakit na nga ng tuhod ko eh at ang sakit pa ng pantog ko kasi wala kaming CR break,” she told Bulletin Entertainment right after her proclamation as winner.

Bacul said that the hardest parts in the challenge were not being allowed to wear a jacket and doing the squats. Note that the contestants were provided popcorns and drinks by Star Movies and partner sponsors during the screenings.

The top 15 last men standing won DéVant speaker system. The top three got DéVant TV and speaker system.

Did she enjoy?

“Enjoy naman kasi lahat ng pelikula ay giyera so magigising ka talaga. May mga times na aantukin ka pero bigla kang masha-shock (to attention) kapag bakbakan na.”

Asked about her plans now that she’s won, Bacul quipped, “Puwede na akong makapili ng boylet!”

It couldn’t have gotten any stranger.
