A-Prince, Eddie Chun, Pinoy scholars raise P232,000 in Korea for typhoon victims

K-pop boy band A-Prince, Eddie Chun band and the Pinoy Iskolars sa Korea (PIKO) have raised a total of 5.67 million won, or about P232,000 won, in a charity concert in Seoul for the victims of Typhoon “Yolanda” in the Philippines.

PIKO and Jonjon Samson organized a fundraising concert called “Sing for the Philippines” recently outside the Myeong-dong subway station in Seoul.

A-Prince, composed of Sungwon, Seungjun, Minhyuk, Woobin and Siyoon; the Eddie Chun band; and Filipino singers in Korea Clint Aimefco, Camille Lucero, Loverly Samson and Mhel braved the cold weather that dipped to -1 degree Celsius and performed on the street just to raise funds for the calamity victims in the Visayas region.

Besides performing at the event, A-Prince held boxes where people who gathered at the concert could drop their donations. Filipino Cherish Maningat was the emcee at the event in Myeong-dong, one of popular shopping districts in Seoul.

Samson said the two-hour street performance raised 1,326,245 won (about P54,457). In addition, students from universities in Korea donated 4,345,957 won (about P178,450) for the charity concert.

In just four days from Nov. 12 to 15, the total collection grew to 5,672,202 won.

The charity concert organizers thanked A-Prince, Eddie Chun band and Filipino singers in Korea for their valuable help in raising funds for the typhoon victims.

They also thanked Migliore Mall, CGV building and Uniqlo in Myeong-dong for allowing the event to be held outside their premises.

Migliore Mall also helped by playing the video about the concert the whole day last Nov. 15 on their giant screen outside the establishment.

The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Department of Tourism in Seoul provided the giveaways to the performers.

The funds will be donated to the Philippine Red Cross and the Association of Social and Health Development Advocates in the country.
