Accomplished Yeng still aims to become ‘Better Than Yesterday’

Enjoying another banner year is Yeng Constantino, who celebrated several milestones in 2013 — both in professional and personal levels.

Early this year, the singer-songwriter realized her dream to eke a niche in the international market, having made inroads with her brand of pop rock in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Taiwan among others.

And this comes with a bonus: a growing presence in the Asian region by way of the Academy of Rock naming Constantino as Ambassador last May, and helping launch her

signature guitar a month later.

This is not to say that Constantino has lost her footing in the local scene, with music channel MYX honoring her with the Favorite Female Artist award last March. Her latest album “Metamorphosis” was also named Rock Album of the year at the 2013 Star Awards.

The Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) spearheaded by its president Ogie Alcasid also paid homage to Constantino’s contribution to the local music industry by naming her junior ambassador this year, alongside upstarts Daniel Padilla, Raymond “Abra” Abracosa and Julie Anne San Jose.

Constantino is also carving a new career in acting, starting with the indie “Shift,” an entry to the Cinema One Originals Film Festival to be held from Nov. 10 to 19, 2013 at Glorietta, Robinsons Galleria and Trinoma.

Amid all these, Constantino also fell in love and for the first time.

In a recent interview with Bulletin Entertainment the 24-year old admitted that she feels so lucky to have received these blessings.

“Alam mo ‘yung feeling na wala ka nang ma-ask pa o masabi kung hindi mag-thank you ka talaga sa Taas for everything?” she related, adding, “Kasi, ‘di ba? Parang…sabay sabay lahat.”

Constantino is thankful for the support of her loyal fans and as such, she is staging “Plugged In” on Nov. 30 at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura, Taguig.

“Pa-birthday ko na rin kasi sa kanila, kasi birthday ko sa Dec. 4, so parang to celebrate the success of the year, gusto ko kasama ko lahat ng mga kaibigan ko, lahat ng nagmamahal sa akin,” she said.

The concert will trace her musical development, from her early beginnings as a bright-eyed fan aping pop acts like Britney Spears and Mandy Moore; to her discovery of punk music and starting her own band; on to her current musical predilection, which is, well, anything goes.

“Ako kasi ngayon, music is music. Lagpas na ako sa genre. Kahit rap, punk, pop, iisa lang sa akin ‘yan basta nararamdaman ko ‘yung love and passion sa naririnig ko. Na-a-appreciate ko ‘yun,” she said.

To prove her point, Constantino shared to media her international single “Better Than Yesterday,” a slice of drum-laden pop with a sprinkling of rap courtesy of Singaporean rapper, actor and radio personality, Sheikh Haikel.

What’s next for Constantino?

“I only aim to better myself as an artist so… tuloy tuloy lang ako. I’ll just keep on evolving and improving.”
