Angelica’s plea: Spare Melai from intrigue

Angelica Panganiban has defended her friend, Melai Cantiveros, even after the latter admitted feeling a bit slighted that the former has seemingly underestimated her soon-to-be husband and father of her child, Jason Francisco.

Angelica was questioned by fans about not mentioning Melai when the former gave a speech in accepting PMPC Star Awards for TV’s Best Gag Show trophy for “Banana Split” which co-stars the two, among others.

Melai’s name was also not mentioned on Angelica’s Instagram post when the latter thanked the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) and the “Banana Split” cast and production for the recognition.

Angelica wrote: “Thank you PMPC!!! Banana split extra scoop won best gag show tied with Bubble gang!!! Mabuhay ang mga comedy shows!! Happy happy 5 years talaga banana split! At nakalimutan kong pasalamatan ang comedy group ng ABS-CBN. Lalo na ang mga writers, staff at boss namin sa banana split. Salamat sa lahat ng ka scoopers or ka splitters out there @iamjohnprats @imjaysongainza @zanjoemarudo @cathygonzaga @pooh_tik @sunshine_garcia @aikolicious06 @jefgaitan @kimdeguzman_ @boomeey @keanedward @ryanbangko @direkbobot @badjismo @camillemortiz @peterdiosa @jayar_badajos @iamjosel @akosijosemari @kyrixter ay ang dami na… Hahahaha! Many of Angelica’s followers asked why she failed to tag the comedienne.

Responding to a follower, Angelica said: “yung production manager nga namin nakalimutan kong pasalamatan…. Si @cynthiabear915 boss namin siya. D ko siya nabanggit sa live at sa ig. Nood ka sa sunday. Wag ka din oa. good night.”

She also addressed her followers to spare Melai, whom she described as “mahal na mahal ko,” from any intrigue, in deference to her condition.

“At sa lahat dito. Kanina pa ko delete ng delete, wag na tayo makelam. Mahal na mahal ko si melai. Kaya parang awa niyo na, wag niyo na siya bigyan ng ikasasama ng loob niya. Noon ko pa to sinasabi.. Ako na lang awayin niyo. Pero wag na natin idmay yung iba. Lalo na nag dadalang tao. Pakiusap. Salamat,” read Angelica’s plea.

In her recent “Buzz ng Bayan” interview, Melai revealed that she was able to relay her feelings to “Twinny” Angelica.

She related, “Parang nag-text kami ni Twinny. Pero sabi ko naman sa kanila, ‘I-understand niyo ako ngayon, kasi buntis ako.’ Kausap ko rin si Alex (Gonzaga)… Pero sabi ko sa kanila, ‘I-understand niyo ako ngayon kasi buntis ako. Sensitive ako. At sana, na-gets niyo at naintindihan niyo ang rason ko kung bakit ako ganyan. Kung maintindihan niyo, peaceful na tayo.’”

In a separate interview with ABS-CBN News, Angelica refused to comment further on the “Pinoy Big Brother” winner.

“Hindi ko siya tinuring na showbiz simula noon kaya I don’t think proper na sumagot ako sa harap ng camera. Kung may issue ako, sa kanya ko sasabihin,” Angelica said of Melai, adding that it won’t be awkward should their paths cross. “Magha-‘hi’ naman ako sa kanya. Matatanda na kami.”

Asked if she will attend the “Melason” wedding in December now that the couple cleared that all “Banana Split” stars are invited, Angelica said, “Hindi ko pa alam. Siyempre kung si Melai, kung siya lang, oo naman.”
