CNN to air film of Pinoy immigrant activist

American TV network, CNN, has acquired the broadcast rights of former Washington Post journalist Jose Antonio Vargas’ film “Documented.”

In 2011, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist dropped a bomb after revealing on New York Times Magazine that he has been living illegally in the US since he was 12 years old.

Shortly after coming out, he traveled around the US and started doing his documentary, along with millions like himself.

Vargas wrote and directed the film, with technology entrepreneur Sean Parker, publicist/consultant Matthew Hiltzik and philanthropist Scott Budnick as the executive producers.

“Immigration, to me, is not a political issue, it’s not a Latino or Asian issue – it’s an American story,” Vargas was quoted in an article published on CNN Press Room.

Apart from dedicating it to parents who just want a better future for their children, the film, according to Vargas, “is in honor of 11 million undocumented immigrants” living in America.

Vargas, the founder of Define American organization, pushes for immigration reforms in the US though the DREAM Act that would allow him and other children in similar circumstances a chance at citizenship.

The film is set for airing in 2014.
