Fun-filled movie ‘Gaydar’ opens today

It sometimes happens that a woman falling in love with a handsome guy later on discovers that he is gay or at least suspects him to be one.

This is the big dilemma in the fun-filled movie “Gaydar” starring Pauleen Luna, Rafael Rosell and Tom Rodriguez. Pauleen plays Tina who secretly falls in love with the FX driver Ricky who brings her to and from work. The shock of her life comes when Ricky reveals to her that he is gay and even introduces his boyfriend. Tina vows not to fall in love again with a gay.

Close friend Nick (Rafael) then helps Tina to look for a new driver, who turns out to be Chard (Tom). Tina, however, suspects that Nick and Chard are gay as well. Her discovery shocks her even more.

Director Alvin B. Yapan said that “‘Gaydar’ is mainly for entertainment.” It was based on a short story he wrote several years back, which he re-wrote into a screenplay then made into a movie sometime later.

Tom has no problem playing a gay role on the big screen so long as the project is beautiful. Tom appeared on “My Husband’s Lover” where he played Vincent, a gay character. His latest movie appearance was in “Bekikang: Ang Nanay kong Beki,” where he played Fortunato, with whom the gay lead actor fell in love.

Rafael, a GMA-7 talent who transferred from ABS-CBN, appeared on “Temptation of Wife” and “Maghihintay Pa Rin.”

“Gaydar” hits local theaters today, Nov. 13.

‘Sayaw At Serye’ At CCP

Philippine Ballet Theatre’s “Sayaw at Serye,” a collaboration with ABS-CBN, is slated for two nights (Nov. 15 and 16) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). With libretto by Concepcion Camacho, the new ballet presentation is based on popular theme songs from Kapamilya shows, rearranged by Gerard Salonga, director and conductor of the ABS-CBN Symphony Orchestra, and sung by the finalists of the runaway hit “The Voice of the Philippines” and surprise artists.

The first part of the unique presentation (it combines musical theater with classical dance and soap opera) will feature excerpts from best-loved classical ballet like “Romeo & Juliet” with the basic plot of a teleserye. The second half features new choreographies by Philippine Ballet Theatre’s artistic director Ronilo Jaynario.

Doc PenPen B Takipsilim

Pentasi B Historical Forum 2013

A poetry forum billed as the Pentasi B Historical Forum 2013 will be held on Nov. 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Marble Hall of the National Museum of the Philippines. Presented by the National Library of the Philippines and the National Museum in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the theme of the forum is “The Genesis and Advocacy of Pentasi B,” according to its creator, Doc PenPen B. Takipsilim, acknowledged as the “father of visual poetry.”

He only wanted to dabble into poetry, the passion of his life, but naturally given to the transformational, Doc PenPen tirelessly experimented in forms and structures until he found a niche now known as visual poetry or Pentasi B, to be more specific. Through this, he linked a mission into his poetry – “to inspire, to heal, to awaken.”

The forum will formally launch Pentasi B. Among the distinguished speakers are Ariadne Sawyer, president of the World Poetry Reading Series in Canada; Ashok K. Bhargava, founder president of Writers International Network Society; Candice James, poet laureate of The City of Westminsters and interim President of The Royal City Literary Arts Society; multi-awarded creative writer Zayra Yves; and our very own Virgilio S. Almario, Director Antonio M. Santos of the National Library, and authors Lily Rose Tope and Rogelio L. Ordonez.
