Good-looking Gabby still gets even younger girls in movies

In 1998, a line from Metropop winning song “Mabuti Pa Sila” had listeners nodding in agreement with slight grin: “Bakit si Gabby Concepcion lagi na lang kinakasal?”

Indeed, the actor’s good looks had predisposed him to always play romantic lead; the one who ends up with the girl and rides with her towards the sunset.

Years later, Gabby is still giving the new generation of heartthrobs a run for their money. In Viva Films’ upcoming “When Love Is Gone,” he plays Emman, a lonely family man who gets embroiled in forbidden love with Cassie (Cristine Reyes). They end up doing nine love scenes together.

Cristine is half Gabby’s age.

“Minsan hindi ko na tinitingnan yung mga edad nila at baka ma-distract ako… wala, trabaho lang, walang personalan,” he said, smiling, at the press launch of the movie held a few days ago.

He details one of the scenes which could be the envy of younger actors.

“May eksena kami sa swimming pool – ganito ang eksena, sabi sa akin – tatalon ka lang sa swimming pool (tapos) tinanggal ko lang yung t-shirt ko… hindi naman ako nagko-complain, yung sinabi ni direk yun naman ang gagawin ko,” he said, sending people around him in stitches.

Turning serious, the actor said that at this point, he has come to accept whatever comes his way. He added that everything has a “reason” behind it, and that people can only be thankful for whatever, whenever.

On Relationship With KC

As father to KC Concepcion, who made headlines recently when actor Paulo Avelino admitted that they’ve been dating, Gabby is the type who trusts her daughter enough to make her own decisions in all aspects of her life.

“Lahat ng mga relasyon niya, wala naman siyang inaamin sa akin. May inaamin siya kapag heart broken na. Lalapitan na niya ako, medyo lumalabas na kami, niyayaya na niya akong magpunta sa beach.

“Wala akong pakialam dun (KC’s love life). Kahit na anong desisyon niya, I’ll be there to back her up, to support her. It’s her decision, it’s her heart.”

But what advice does he give her when it comes to matters of the heart?

“Don’t just use your heart, dapat kilalanin mo muna yung tao. Be careful.”

Asked to comment on KC’s mom Sharon Cuneta’s recent statement that she’ll welcome a granddaughter from their daughter, Gabby simply said, “Why not? Eh may mga kasama nga ako sa industriya, lolo na. Nakakainggit nga eh.”

Homage

“When The Love Is Gone” is Viva Films’ homage to the late director Danny Zialcita. The new movie, after all, is based on his classic film “Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba Ng Gabi.” Aside from Gabby and Cristine, the coming flick stars Alice Dixon, Andi Eigenmann and Jake Cuenca. The movie hits theaters on Nov. 27.

Tipping a hat to Gabby’s enduring look, Jake said at the presscon: “Kasi naman kapag lalaki ka, maiinsecure ka sa kagwapuhan ni Sir Gabby. So talagang mape-pressure ka’ng magpa-pogi, maging fresh, huwag magpuyat. Kasi si Sir Gabby, effortless.”
