More K-pop fans join ‘Yolanda’ drive; Korea sends team to PH

More K-pop fans in the Philippines and other countries have joined the relief efforts for families affected by Typhoon “Yolanda” in the Philippines.

On the other hand, the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT), composed of 44 medical and rescue personnel, is in the country to do humanitarian activities in Tacloban City.

This is part of a comprehensive aid package pledged by the Korean government to aid the survivors and victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

A total of 46 K-pop fan clubs in the Philippines together with two international fan clubs have launched the “KPOP4Yolanda” project, which aims to gather donations for the typhoon victims.

Participating Philippine fan clubs in the project are 100%-PH, 2OneDay-PH, Hottest Society, After School-PH, A-Jax-PH, A-Pink-PH, A-Prince PH, AOA-PH, B1A4-PH, BAP-PH, Boyfriend-PH, BTS-PH, BEGLove-PH, BTOB-PH, Crayon Pop-PH, C-Clown-PH, Creal-PH, DalShabet-PH, Demion-PH, Fiestar-PH, Hello Venus-PH, Girls Generation-PH, Jay Effect-PH, Juniel-PH, JYP Nation-PH, KARA-PH, Lunafly-PH, Miss A-PH, M.Pire-PH, Noh Jihoon-PH, NOM-PH, SJU-PH, Seventeen-PH, SHINee World-PH, Tahiti-PH, Tasty 2win-PH, ToppDogg-PH, Teen Top-PH, Vixx-PH, Winner-PH, Wonderboyz-PH, Wonder Girls-PH, ZEA-PH, 4minute-PH, Nu’est-PH and JJ Project-PH.

International fan clubs CubicBeatz (BTOB) and MightySistar (Sistar) are also helping to gather donations.

The group is accepting medicine, clothes, toiletries, water, ready-to-eat food and cash. All donations will be given to the Philippine Red Cross.

The donation drive will last until the 5th Annual Philippine K-pop Convention, which will be held on Dec. 28 at the SMX Halls 1 and 2.

Other K-pop fans are also doing their own fund and donation drives for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

The Philippine K-pop Committee and Cassiopeia Philippines have finished collecting and repacking donations, which were delivered to the Kapuso Foundation.

JYJ Philippines has its “JYJ REACH: Earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) Charity Project.” Donations will be given to the ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya and World Vision.

Soshified, the international community of Girls’ Generation fans, has already collected $11,660 (about P507,559) under its “#WishesForPH” project.

The medical team from South Korea is stationed at St. Paul Hospital. The team is helping treat patients and distribute medical items to local authorities.

On the other hand, the rescue team conducted search and rescue missions. Sanitary work was performed by the team to help prevent the spread of infection due to lack of proper safeguards and clean water.

Last Nov. 16, two other C-130 aircraft arrived in Cebu to help in the transport of relief goods and people who left Tacloban for Cebu and Manila.

Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Hyuk Lee went to Tacloban to personally assess the situation, and commend and encourage the KDRT in the performance of their mandate.

Being on site allowed Ambassador Lee to learn what other assistance his country and government can provide in the days to come.

South Korea, under President Park Geun-hye, has pledged $5 million worth of assistance for relief efforts in the Philippines.

The Philippines has so far received a total of $319.53 million (about P12.98 billion) in aid from different countries and agencies.
