OPM stars bring ray of sunshine in the wake of ‘Yolanda’ onslaught

Several OPM artists have united to join a huge musical event to raise funds for the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda” (“Haiyan”) that ravaged parts of Visayas.

MYX changed the format of their annual “MYX Mo!” concert to show the solidarity with our suffering countrymen and harness the power of OPM for a good cause. More than 40 of today’s best acts in the music scene were showcased in the shindig Tuesday at the SM Mall of Asia Grounds in Pasay City.

For Rico Blanco, the message of the event is personal to him because his relatives from mother’s side are also among the thousands of people who lost their homes in typhoon-wrecked Tacloban City.

He said that his relatives are all alive and safe in the evacuation centers now, but they still call for basic needs.

To generate funds to help, Martin Nievera vowed to donate his talent fees from every show he will be doing from hereon, including his upcoming two big shows at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, USA in December.

“Whatever it is, I wanna make a point. I want people to know that I am here now, not performing in my usual Christmas shows all over America. Now I’m gonna do it for a cause,” the Concert King said.

The cast of musical show “Cinderella,” led by Karylle, is also planning to do a separate play, saying they would donate their talent fees.

Her co-star Christian Bautista, on the other hand, wants to personally visit Visayas to reach out. At the “MYX Mo!” event, the balladeer sang “Invincible” to dedicate to the victims, whose resilience he lauded in the face of the devastated brought by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, Jonalyn Viray – who celebrates her birthday on Nov. 15 – has opted not to hold a huge celebration; instead, she will organize a gathering for her fan club and encourage them to bring donations.

Rappers Gloc-9 and Quest were pleased to showcase their talents to aid the ravage areas. They, however, call for vigilance to watch the helps that are coming.

“Ako personally, kailangan kong salain ang mga organization na gusto kong bigyan ng tulong dahil sa mga anomalya na nangyayari sa kung kani-kaninong tao, eh, nakakalungkot isipin na baka ang itutulong mo ay mapunta lang sa wala,” Gloc-9 said.

Quest added: “For someone like me, it’s nice to be part of a cause that through music, we can make a difference.

TV premiere airing of “MYX Mo! 2013″ will be on Nov. 16, 12 noon on Skycable Ch. 23, Cablelike Ch. 23 and Destiny Cable Digital Ch. 23.
