Rachelle Ann has had a number of theater roles before this London break, including Jane in the local production of ‘Tarzan’
Rachelle Ann Go reveals that she will be living all by herself in London while preparing for her role in “Miss Saigon.”“Kinakabahan ako pero, mas nangingibabaw ’yung pagka-excited ko dun sa gagawin ko sa London. Excited akong matuto, as an artist (and) as a person. Matututo akong magluto, maglaba,” she told “Unang Hirit” with a laugh. “Pero, then, sobrang I’m sure marami akong matututunan bilang mag-isa lang ako sa London.”
The 27-year-old songstress-theatre actress will portray embittered bar girl Gigi Van Tranh in the upcoming West End revival of the twelfth longest-running Broadway musical in musical theatre history.
Rachelle will fly to London in March 2014, with “Miss Saigon” premiering on May 3 at the Prince Edward Theatre.
She also had the chance to talk with former Filipino cast member of “Miss Saigon” namely Lea Salonga, the original Kim, as well as Isay Alvarez, who essayed the role of Gigi in the West End version.
“Actually, oo, nagkausap kami. Sabi nga niya (Lea), ‘Hindi mababayaran ’yung experience na ’yan,’ so, sabi lang niya ‘Enjoy, enjoy the moment.’ Pati si Ms. Isay Alvarez sabi niya i-enjoy ko lang daw ’yun,” Rachelle narrated.
Although actually eyeing the role of Kim in the upcoming production, Rachelle ended up being cast as Gigi. “Ang tanda ko na daw eh,” she related, laughing.
She nevertheless conceded, “I think I’m too old for the role. Sabi nga nila kailangan talaga nila ’yung bata, and, parang sampung taon ’yung diperensiya ko dun sa lead.”
She even recalled asking herself why she really wanted the lead role. “Then na-realize ko it’s really not about the role; it’s about the experience that you will get from it eh.”
