‘Yolanda’ wrecks Lucy’s family home in Ormoc

Actor Richard Gomez revealed that the family of his wife and Ormoc representative Lucy Torres-Gomez was among the casualties of the super typhoon Yolanda.

“They are not staying there now. They transferred to my sister’s house,” Richard told ABS-CBN News in line with reports that the home of Lucy’s parents was destroyed after the “strongest typhoon in the world this year” struck the country.

He noted a common situation for most of the families there is that “kung saang parte ng bahay na pwede pang masilungan doon muna.”

Richard also pointed out that many are currently “homeless, really, because it’s a coastal area.”

He explained, “That’s why we are consolidating and really (asking for help).” He added, though, that they understand “(na) karamihan ng tulong ay sa Tacloban, which is understandable because doon talaga ang pinakamalaking pinsala.”

Lucy to help out Ormoc

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Lucy shared that she is going home to Ormoc with her husband to somehow relay that the government is doing everything it can to send aid to the victims.

“We are taking the chopper. Wala pa kaming dala. Before going there I’ve spoken to Sec. Butch Abad and Sec. Dinky Soliman para when I meet the people I can reassure them that the government is committed to help,” she related in a phone interview with “Kris TV” on Monday.

Lucy last spoke to Ormoc farmers, whose crops “have (all) been totally wiped out.”

“We really need rehabilitation. The sugar mill is not operational anymore. In times like this, usually the big family will sustain the smaller families, ’di ba? Pero in this case we are all on the same boat, we are all starting from scratch, from ground zero,” she narrated.

The former TV host also clarified the issue of aid and assistance not coming into the city.

“Ang hindi kasi naiintindihan ng tao ay sarado ang national highway,” Lucy said, adding that Ormoc is currently accessible by air and sea only.

“Maraming relief goods kaya lang hindi nakaabot. That’s why we are encouraging donors na doon muna sa Cebu para… diretso na sa Ormoc by ferry. Two hours lang ’yung fast craft from Cebu to Ormoc. If they go, please coordinate para we can give security to them. It’s important lang na from the port ay secure sila hanggang sa kung saan magdi-distribute ng relief goods,” she added.

Lucy has also put up a website that lists the donors’ names and where their donations are headed.

She enumerated “tent, bigas at food” as the victims’ immediate needs.
