Eugene Domingo counts comedian Ai Ai delas Alas among a few of her closest friends in show business, having worked together several times in the past with the former usually cast as sidekick to the Comedy Queen.

So it was kind of a surprise for Domingo to hear insinuations that all is not well between them, supposedly with delas Alas being envious of her continued success, including the acting awards she’s been winning.

The 42-year old actress finds the notion “impossible.”

“Wala akong alam na ganyan. Actually sa bawat tagumpay ko isa siya sa mga nauunang batiin ako — all the time — so wala,” she said in an interview.

Domingo quickly dispelled comparison between her and delas Alas.

“Magkaiba naman kami eh, I mean, nag-co-concert siya ‘di ba? So unfair naman i-compare kami. At ‘yung issue nang ungusan? Wala.”

She added that, if anything, she and delas Alas are both working hand in hand to “uplift local comedy.”

“Suportahan nga kami eh,” she said. “Iisa lang naman ang hangad namin, ang mai-angat ang industriya, lalo na ang larangan ng komedya so bakit mag-co-compete?”

She maintained, “Ang importante dito kasi hindi ‘yung kasikatan o ‘yung mga award. Ang importante paano ka nakakatulong sa industriya.”

Domingo is busy promoting “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel,” an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. She said that the latest installment of the franchise will be the last regardless if it becomes a huge hit at the box office or not.

“Wala na talaga,” she said. “HIndi ako sinungaling na tao. Ito na ‘yun. This will be the last.”

Apparently, Domingo believes have exhausted all ideas for the Kimmy Dora characters and she’d rather they start fresh with a new franchise rather than continue with a tired formula.

“I believe na marami pang ibang material, mag-iisip tayo ng ibang characters, ng ibang franchise na katutuwaan ng mga tao,” she said.

With that said, Domingo maintains that she and the rest of the production team pushed themselves in making the film as entertaining as possible.

“From the script, to the execution kahit sa technical aspect…tinodo na namin talaga,” she said. “Gusto namin kasi mag-iwan ng napakagandang pelikula na pag naman nagbalik tanaw sila e, mangingiti pa rin sila.”

Is she expecting to win awards for the movie?

“Hindi kasi dadagdagan mo lang stress mo (if you do),” she said. “Importante dito eh confident kami, the whole cast and crew, na naibigay namin ang lahat-lahat dito.”

Domingo said she is more interested in how people would react to the film come opening day.

“Kasi gusto ko lang mapanuod nila. Siyempre kasi ‘di ba sa dami ng pinagdaanan natin eh, sana, pagdating naman ng Dec. 25 eh, ganado na manood ang mga tao. Hindi mo sila hawak eh, hindi mo sila mahahatak eh, you just have to leave it all to fate.”
