Jasmine Curtis-Smith is not only slowly proving her critics that she can step out of her sister Anne Curtis’ shadow, but also claiming independence soon.

“Payag na si Ate (Anne) na bumukod ako. ’Yun nga lang, ako ang mabagal kumilos. And besides, I needed to stop fixing things because ayaw ko naman maging selfish amid what has happened in our country recently. I opted to help first,” Jasmine said in an interview. Anne’s younger sister has helped a number of charity events and fundraisers for the benefit of “Yolanda” survivors. “I’m not rushing to move out kasi napaka-hospitable naman ni Ate sa bahay.”

The 19-year-old Kapatid star quipped, “If you get to live in a place where everything is free, bakit ka naman aalis agad agad, ’di ba?”

While she has confirmed plans of moving out of Anne’s place, Jasmine remained mum on reports saying that she will be transferring to the latter’s network, ABS-CBN.

Her being a TV5 talent is one of the factors why Jasmine thinks that a project with rumored boyfriend Sam Concepcion is unlikely to materialize.

“I’m with TV5, he’s with ABS-CBN. It’s hard to say also, but yes, why not? Okay lang, masaya naman ’yun (to have a project with Sam).”

Hollywood dream

At the moment, Jasmine is busy campaigning for her first movie starrer “Transit,” for which she won her first acting award as Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Cinemalaya Film Festival. “Transit” is the Philippines’ entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 2014 Oscars.

According to Jasmine, what adds to the pressure is that no one knows how the entries will fare.

“You just really don’t know. You just have to keep campaigning. The people from Hollywood won’t tell you kung ano ’yung chances mo… But there are predictions online, so I’m hoping that we are in the Top 15 shortlist of the Academy Awards and make it to the Final 5… I’m just glad na kami talaga ang napili ng Pilipinas para maging representative.”

Given the chance to attend the Oscars next year, Jasmine gushed, “Iiwanan ko lahat para pumunta doon! It’s my one and only chance to attend the Academy Awards, papalampasin ko pa ba ’yun ’di ba? Siyempre kailangan bongga din (ang suot), maki-level din sa mga attendees.”
