Kris Aquino hopes to be in a longtime relationship with Vic Sotto—as business partners.
During the recent press conference for their upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival entry, “My Little Bossings”, the actress and TV host dubbed as the Queen of All Media said she hopes to work with the celebrated comedian and three-time Box Office King “for a long time”.
She announced that there are already offers to develop “My Little Bossings” as a sitcom after its theatrical run this Christmas season. A movie franchise in the tradition of the “Enteng Kabisote” series may also be possible depending on how well the movie performs at the box office.
Both Kris and Vic have proven to be bankable stars in the MMFF. Last year, “Sisterakas”, her comedy entry with Vice Ganda and Ai-Ai delas Alas was the record-breaking top grosser not only in the MMFF but of all time, with over P391 million in reported gross. Bossing Vic’s “Si Agimat, Si Enteng at si Ako”, on the other hand, was the third top-grossing film of the MMFF with a cool P152 million gross.
Given these box-office performances, it’s fairly reasonable to believe that “My Little Bossings” will do just as well for this year even as two other comedies, Vice Ganda’s “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy” and “Kimmy Dora: Ang Kiyemeng Prequel” are likely to give it serious competition for the box office crown.
In deciding to partner with Vic for “My Little Bossings”, Kris said Bossing offered the project to her with son Bimby in mind.
“Kumurot sa puso ko ang istorya,” she admits. “And when Vic offered this project to me for Bimby, I just couldn’t pass up the chance for him to work with Vic and learn from his work ethic. Gusto ko mamulat siya sa showbiz na si Vic ang unang kasama sa pelikula,” Kris enthused.
And since Kris is co-producing the project, she is personally taking a hands-on approach in the making of “My Little Bossings” going as far as personally calling indie filmmaker Marlon N. Rivera to helm the project in lieu of original choice Joyce Bernal and Bossing’s longtime director, Tony Y. Reyes.
Vic said Kris is also involved in just about all other aspects of “My Little Bossings”, from the development of the script to the promotion of the film.
“Maraming siyang magagandang ideas. And she learns fast,” Vic observed.
She has also made sure son Bimby has everything he needs for the film, including acting coach (Ralley Zapanta), stylist (Liz Uy) and photographer (Mark Nicdao). Direk Marlon has in fact, revealed that Kris can be a little “OC” when it comes to asking for extra close-ups for her son.
There is one department where Kris has limited her involvement — as a member of the cast. She plays Baba, Vic’s employer in the film whose life becomes threatened after encountering problems in her business. Because of this, she entrusts the safety of her one and only son (Bimby) to her bookkeeper (Vic) thereby allowing the two to spend the rest of the movie bonding with Vic’s niece (Aiza Seguerra) and the orphan she took under her wing (Ryzza Mae Dizon).
“I only have a total of six scenes in the movie,” she revealed. “The movie is really about the relationship of Vic’s character with the characters played by Bimby, Ryzza and Aiza”.
As Kris and Vic were once romantically linked when they were first paired together onscreen in “My Funny Valentine” way back in 1990, one of the later questions during the press conference centered on the prospects of them becoming more than just business partners.
Kris acknowledged that she has a bad track record when it comes to having relationships with fellow actors. Because of this and also because she expects her co-production ventures with Vic to last for a long time, she has no intention of having a romantic relationship with him, given that they were never more than friends to begin with.
“We just remained really good friends for a long time,” she insisted. “Hindi na siguro dapat haluan ng personal ang pagtatrabaho naming ngayon.
When Bimby was asked if he ever gets jealous of Vic, the boy was quick to reply, “No, because she has a girlfriend.”
As Kris would later reveal, Pauleen Luna, Vic’s girlfriend was a regular visitor on the set. Turns out Bossing has his own Bossing to attend to.
