Lea Salonga’s ‘Playlist’ starts tonight at PICC

LEA SALONGA, Manila Bulletin

LEA SALONGA

Tonight and tomorrow, all roads will lead to the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) for international singing superstar and Tony Award winner Lea Salonga’s much-awaited concert titled “Playlist.” The concert is a musical milestone for Lea who celebrates 35 colorful years in the entertainment industry.

It’s a feat to stay more than three decades in the industry, and only a few truly talented artists can sustain this longevity. But Lea was born for superstardom. She has proven her staying power and up to now she owns the crown and the stage.

In “Playlist,” Lea will be singing her personal list of favorite songs which she hopes the audience will like.

Joining Lea onstage are Mitoy, the first grand champion of “The Voice Of The Philippines,” and singer-stage actress Rachelle Ann Go. “I am so excited to be sharing the stage with my guests. I am so proud to be featuring Mitoy on a big concert stage after his victory in ‘The Voice.’ And Rachelle Ann is one of the best voices our industry has,” says Lea.

“Playlist” is directed by Bobby Garcia with musical direction by Gerard Salonga who’ll be conducting the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.

The sponsors for “Playlist” are Bounty Fresh, Insular Life, Manila Catering, Asiaworld, Avon, Bayo and Fancy Crepes and Cakes.

Tickets are available online at Ticketworld and the PICC Box Office.

ABBY ASISTIO

Abby Asistio Joins Manila Genesis

Among the new breed of artists to join Manila Genesis Entertainment and Management Inc. is multi-talented Abby Asistio. She’s a singer, songwriter, and TV host, and Abby is also the newest brand ambassador of Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion.

Abby also recently released her debut, self-penned single titled “Beautiful” which was arranged by Jay Durias of South Border. The single’s music video is directed by Joaquin Valdes and is on rotation on MYX and in radio stations.

At the age of four, Abby was diagnosed with alopecia areata, a condition that causes patches of hair loss around the body. Abby went through the process of hair fall: losing it little by little. She tried various hair remedies when she lived in the US. Last year, she shaved it completely.

After which, Abby decided there was no more hiding. In September 2012, she took her stand and embraced her baldness. Together with good friend Jing Monis, she shaved her head and began with an Alopecia Areata Awareness Month Instagram campaign in which she invited friends and family to pose with a double “A” sign using their fingers. The campaign was a success, and on Sept. 25, she did a coming-out concert where she performed bald in public for the first time.

This year she was highlighted as one of the top 41 best vocalists on “The Voice Of The Philippines” as one of its chosen contestants out of thousands of aspirants. Also a finalist of the Dove Real Beauty Campaign and one of Meg magazine’s 30 Young Achievers, Abby has made it one of her life goals to be a voice for those with alopecia areata.

Ms. Sheila Mae Velilla, president of Nutramedica Inc., says, “Abby is a perfect candidate to show how truly effective Novuhair is and we are glad to see visible results.”
