Ai Ai delas Alas cuddles by her son Sancho (@aiaidelasalas)
Notwithstanding the passing of her biological mother, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas nevertheless welcomes the New Year with high hopes.
Clad in white shirts, Ai Ai and her children marked the turn of the year at the wake of her mother, Gregoria Hernandez delas Alas, who died recently. While the cause of death was not revealed, the elder delas Alas was said to have had Alzheimer’s disease.
The Kapamilya star lit up rounds of firecrackers, surmising that these will drive bad luck away.

Ai Ai admitted that she experienced “spiritual dryness” due to the “too much pain” she experienced in 2013, one cause of which was her controversial and public breakup with husband Jed Salang. Nonetheless, the 49-year-old mother of three is thankful for the love and support of her children.

“ito ang gift ni lord saken kahit quota na ko sa pain ngayun 2013 pasabog naman ako sa pagmamahal ng pagmamahal sa mga baby ko … labyu sancho shaun and sophia..” she said in a photo repost, showing her eldest son Sancho cuddling her.
Sancho, for his part, said, “Sa oras ng kalungkutan, pangako lagi akong nandyan… Hindi kita iiwan… Wag ka na umiyak ma. Mahal na mahal kita. Nasa maayos na kalagayan na si lola.”
Ai Ai announced the death of her mother via Instagram on Dec. 30.

“alam ko nung kinuha ako sayo nung baby pako nagkasakit ka ng tatlong bwan sa lungkot… ngayun ako naman ang nalungkot kahit alam kong kasama ka na ng ating panginoon.. sobra kitang ma mi miss ..
“kanina nung nag mir ka ang sarap ng pakiramdam ko na nagkasama tayong 2 lang sa loob yun na pala yun … pahinga ka na nay alam kong napagod ka ng ilang araw… happy new year .. kahit wala ka na alam ko makikita mo kami na magdiriwang sa pagpasok ng bagong taon kasama mo na si tatay magkikita na kayo …2 years ago ganito din yun ….” read part of her post.
Today is the last wake of Ai Ai’s mother before her funeral at the Eternal Gardens Memorial Park in Quezon City tomorrow morning.
