TV5 is set to showcase its strengthened programming and game-changing digital convergence with telecommunications giant Smart Communications, Inc. in the upcoming AD Summit Pilipinas 2014, a much-awaited gathering of over 2,500 marketers, advertising practitioners and students to be held from May 8 to 10 at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center (SBECC).
As a major sponsor of the highly anticipated three-day advertising convention, TV5 recently inked its partnership with the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies Philippines (4As). The AD Summit banners the theme “Age of Enlightenment” to highlight the advent of the digital age of new media.
TV5 will host the first night of AD Summit Pilipinas on May 8, treating more than 2,500 participants to a festive night of food and drinks and a chance to mingle with the hottest Kapatid artists. On top of this, TV5 will be raffling off a whopping P1 million in cash before the night ends.
TV5 will also have a three-day exhibit at the AD Summit Pilipinas 2014 where participants will get to catch glimpses of the Kapatid Network’s shows plus showcase ideas on how to utilize different platforms (TV, radio, digital, mobile, etc.) in coming out with marketing campaigns.

NEW YORK | Bob Dylan’s four-page original manuscript for “Like a Rolling Stone” — considered to be one of the greatest rock songs ever — is expected to fetch $1 million to $2 million when it is put on auction in June, Sotheby’s said on Thursday.
Also for sale in the “Presley to Punk” auction in New York will be memorabilia from the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Joni Mitchell and the Rolling Stones.
Dylan’s 1965 anthem addressed to “Miss Lonely” and asking “How does it feel, to be on your own, with no direction home” was a breakthrough for Dylan and the music industry.
It not only established the former folk singer as a rocker but also, running more than six minutes, was almost double the length of pop songs that got radio air time in that era.
“In this near complete four-page working draft the distinctive often repeated ‘how does it feel’ lyric is clearly visible alongside unused lines, stray thoughts on American cultural imagery, and interesting doodles,” Sotheby’s said in a press release.
Richard Austin, the expert in charge of the sale, commented: “This is the Holy Grail of rock lyrics. The release of ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ irreversibly changed postwar music history with one song, Bob Dylan elevated rock music from mere ‘pop’ to the medium though which youth culture expressed itself.”
“The lyrics set down on these four small sheets of paper are a near complete rendering of the song that resonated like no other, influencing the course of pop music for the next 50 years.”
In 2004, “Like a Rolling Stone” topped Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Other items for auction include a contract that the legendary guitarist Hendrix signed in 1965 agreeing to perform live and in the studio for $1.
Sotheby’s says this began “the debilitating legal troubles” that would plague Hendrix for the rest of his musical career.
There also are posters for a Presley concert and for a Rolling Stones concert in Paris.

Alvin Yapan’s “Debosyon”, an entry in the New Breed section of the 2013 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, recently won Honorable Mention for Outstanding International Feature at the ReelWorld Film Festival in Toronto, Canada.
Held last April, the annual film festival was founded by Canadian actress Tonya Lee Williams in 2001 and showcases short and feature length films from Canada and other countries in its desire to bring together multi-racial communities.
Described in the festival as an enigmatic love story between a young man (Paulo Avelino) and a mysterious woman (Mara Lopez) set at the foot of the Mayon Volcano, “Debosyon” debuted to mostly favorable reviews when it first premiered in Cinemalaya last July.
Despite critical acclaim, however, the film failed to take home a single award in Cinemalaya and also did not win in the recent Young Critics Circle awards where it was nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound.
With its recognition in Toronto, the film finally earned the recognition that has eluded it in its home country. Outside of the Philippines, the film has been hailed by Variety magazine’s Maggie Lee as one of the “Top 10 of Under the Radar Asian films for its erotic rhapsody on Catholic & Pinoy pagan iconography.”
According to director Yapan, the film was recognized by ReelWorld’s festival jury “for the artistic risks that [the film] took and creative sure-handedness in execution”.
Next stop for “Debosyon” is the ongoing 30th Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival which opened this Thursday, May 1, and will run until May 11. The film is one of five entries from the Philippines featured in New Face of Philippine Cinema section together with Borgy Torre’s “Kabisera,” Siege Ledesma’s “Shift,” Miko Livelo’s “Blue Bustamante” and Mikhail Red’s “Rekorder.”
