Prolific American screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, best known for his screenplay for the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Carrie” in 1976, is flying in to attend premiere of Atlantis Production’s offering “Carrie: The Musical.”
Cohen, who has worked with some of the most respected names in the industry, serves as guest of honor to the musical’s debut on Philippine stage.
Along with the book written by Cohen himself, “Carrie: The Musical” features compositions by Academy Award winner Michael Gore, as well as lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford. The local adaptation will be directed by Bobby Garcia.
It tells a story of a high school student named Carrie White, who is misunderstood and subjected to bulling by her classmates. She is likewise terrorized by her oppressive religious mother. The story is heightened by the feelings of resentment stirring within her, and the revenge she takes aided by her telekinetic powers
“Carrie: The Musical” opens on Fri, Sept. 20, at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium and will run until Oct. 6.
