Death-defying, life-affirming

As far as telling the details of a story go, the most reliable sources are those who were there when it happened.

This is the thrust of GMA Network’s human drama “Bingit” which re-enacts near-death situations as told by the persons involved. Using the elements of interview, dramatization, actual videos and photos, the info-tainment program shows how the human spirit can overcome almost anything.

“It is a highly emotional show,” said program manager Enri Calaycay. “May mga pagkakataon talaga na dumadating ang tao sa tipping point ng buhay niya – crime, sakit, karamdaman – at dun niya mare-realize na he has to make a decision. Yun ang gusto naming ipakita dito.”

Even people who’ve not had similar experiences can relate to the show.

“Halimbawa tatay ka. Makakarelate ka na, ‘Oo nga noh, paano kaya kung kahit any moment, inaasahan ako ng pamilya ko, mawala ako?’ Or pag ikaw naman ang nanay, ‘Oo nga no, paano na lang kaya yung asawa ko kapag nawala ako?’

“Minsan kasi nakakalimutan natin yung importance ng buhay so dapat ayusin natin yan. Let’s live to the fullest kasi hindi mo naman alam kung kailan ka mawawala,” she said.

The pilot episode of “Bingit” is about the real story of June Abrozado (played by Mark Herras), the lone survivor in the plane crash that killed former DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo last year.

Directed by Rico Gutierrez and Lem Lorca, “Bingit” premieres Sept. 21 after “Startalk.”
