Jean shares thoughts on love

Jean Garcia believes positive change in troubled romantic relationships starts from self.

“Huwag nating ibintang ng ibintang sa karelasyon natin ang problema nung relasyon. Isipin din natin kung ano ba ang mga maling nagawa natin at kailangan i-accept natin yun,” she said at the press launch of “Love Hotline” which she hosts.

While true love is always forgiving, the awarded actress points out that it is first a two-way street. She also thinks there is a time to let go.

“Kung hindi ka na makatulog na katabi siya or ayaw mo na siyang makita, I guess yun yung hangganan. Kung hindi ka na masaya, give it up! Mahirap gawin pero kapag si-net mo sa mind mo na ganun, kaya mong gawin.”

Asked what makes her the perfect love guru for the show, Jean pointed out that at 43, she has been through a lot and can’t even count the number of failed relationships she’s survived.

Still, she recognizes that love concerns are always on case-to-case basis.

“Desisyon pa din nila (viewers) kung makikinig sila or kung bibigyan nila ng pansin yung sasabihin ko. Kung ano lang po yung mga experiences ko, ‘dun lang ako nanggagaling parati, yun lang ang puwedeng ihugot sa akin,” she said.

Is she in love? Jean smiled.

“Meron naman. I’m happy. May inspirasyon naman ako besides my children. Congratulations to me! Sana ito na nga talaga…” she said pertaining to her non-showbiz boyfriend.

Jean said that the privacy of their relationship helps keep it from falling apart.

“Kapag tahimik ang love life ko, tumatagal. Pag medyo alam ng lahat, medyo nasho-shorten,” she said like a mantra.

A love advice program, “Love Hotline” answers puzzling love problems that are experienced by viewers. Jean, love expert Ali Gui, a guest male celebrity (Rocco Nacino, Kevin Santos, and Betong Sumaya during the pilot week) and a DJ from Barangay LS FM weigh in on the situation and tries to give practical solutions every week.

Jean believes that despite heartaches, one should try to open up to love.

“Magte-take ka kasi talaga ng risk pag nagmahal. Kapag nag open ka ulit sa pagmamahal, talagang hindi mo talaga alam kung ano ang mangyayari sa hinaharap.”

“Love Hotline” will air weekday evening on GMA News TV starting Sept. 23.
