EXO-K, Dal Shabet and SHINee
The much-anticipated K-Pop Republic Concert, featuring three of the top Korean pop groups, is happening tonight at Smart Araneta Coliseum. The concert is brought to us by All Access Productions and JU Entertainment.
The three Korean groups performing are SHINee, EXO-K and Dal Shabet, all of whom have gained tremendous following among Filipinos and also across the world including in the United Kingdom and the United States.
Formed in 2008, SHINee – with members Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin – made their debut on SBS’ Inkigayo with their single “Replay.” In the Philippines SHINee is known for their hit songs “Ring Ding Dong,” “Lucifer” and “Dream Girl.”
The EXO-K, the Korean half of the 12-member group, is made up of Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O, Kai and Sehun. In 2012, EXO-K received several awards as outstanding newcomer. To date, it has won about 20 awards since their debut in April last year; their comeback album “XOXO” has also hit the No. 2 spot on the iTunes Philippines Charts. EXO is said to be the next Super Junior phenomenon to hit the Philippines.
Dal Shabet, on the other hand, is a South Korean girl group formed on March 2011. The members of Dal Shabet, who are also hosts and actors on prime Korean dramas, are Serri, Ayoung, Jiyul, Woohee, GaEun and Subin. By the way, the group won the Best Newcomer Artist Award at the 26th Golden Disk Awards on January 2012.

Film Leaders At Ongoing International Film Conference
A two-day International Film Expo started yesterday at the SMX Convention Center. With it runs an International Film Conference (IFC) where international and local film leaders and experts are brought together “to discuss new technologies, linkages between global film commission networks and funding faculties, opportunities for enhanced capability-building programs, modern trends in filmmaking, and the augmentation of education towards a film industry looking towards the future.”
With the theme “Towards Sustainable Cinema,” the conference is composed of three sessions, the first of which is highlighted by Co-Production (Collaboration, Commerce, and Creativity), with it being the key in the success and profitability of films. It opens up funding, markets, and opportunities to enter into the mainstream and profit accordingly. Tackling questions concerning the particular challenges, demands and considerations of co-production and how international studios and filmmakers take advantage of these opportunities will be of prime concern.
The second session tackles “A Vision Beyond Film and Television.” The expansion of the entertainment industry in Asia and the rest of the world beyond the usual live-action material and into new territory poses the question: “What’s next?” Film makers should see themselves as content creators and technology missionaries, but continue to be visionaries, storytellers and cultural leaders as they immerse themselves in the newer fields of animation, online interactivity, gaming and other forums of content gaining audiences. The session will also look at what Film Commissions can do in addition to just offering shooting locations but instead also provide their own insight and expertise into the production of film crews in foreign lands.
The third session, which closes the conference, will have the participants talking about the subject “Towards Sustainable Cinema.” Due to the rise of the independent cinema and ever growing popularity of commercial movies, the benchmarks of critical and financial success are now in flux. Making a critically acclaimed film is one thing, but achieving financial sustainability and being able to create good films that generate enough money to produce more good films seems to be something quite difficult to achieve. What formula may we follow? What are the secrets to success? These and more will be discussed.

Mother Of All Bazaars Since The ‘50s
The Catholic Women’s Club is holding its much-awaited Casa Y Jardin Bazaar 2013 today and tomorrow, Sunday, at the Rockwell Powerplant Mall from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Unique to this bazaar is the sale of the Limited Edition Mother and Child Plate, which is now on its 28th series and this year features the work of national artist H.R. Ocampo. Shoppers will be treated to varied items from Christmas and home decors to clothes, jewelry, shoes, accessories, toys, specialty dishes from the Holiday Foods Table, donated items at generous giveaway prices from the Gold Elephant Table, and a lot more.
Also on sale are maid’s uniforms sewn by women trained through the initiative of CWC, which is chaired by Tessie Rodrigo. CWC funded the building of a social hall and purchased sewing machines to provide employment to housewives living at Gawad Kalinga Community in Onyx, Manila.The highlight of the Casa Y Jardin Bazaar 2013 is a grand raffle on the last day.
