Miss World Philippines Megan Young continues to boost her strong chances of capturing the elusive Miss World 2013 crown.
Young was announced winner of the Top Model Challenge Event, one of the prestigious beauty pageant’s major challenge events held Sept. 27, on the Miss World’s official website.
The Top Model challenge “is where the contestants get to showcase their poise and their cat walk skills,” with this year featuring “a distinct Byzantine Concept (and) highlighting the very best of Indonesian Fashion.”
The 23-year-old Filipino American bested her four other top competitors – the United States’ Olivia Jordan, who placed 2nd; France’s Marine Lorphelin, 3rd; Ukraine’s Anna Zaiachkivska, 4th; and Brazil’s Sancler Frantz, 5th – for the Miss World 2013 Top Model title. Megan’s triumph automatically qualifies her to the pageant’s semifinal round.
Young also placed significantly in two other events. She came in at 5th in the Beach Fashion competition among 11 finalists, after Jamaica’s Gina Hargitay (4th), Ghana’s Naa Okailey Shooter (3rd), France’s Lorphelin (2nd), and the eventual winner, Brazil’s Frantz, who also advances to the semifinals.
In the Multimedia category, Young placed 4th, behind Nepal’s Ishani Shrestha, Thailand’s Kanyaphak Phokesomboon, and the winner, India’s Navneet Dhillon, respectively.
Meanwhile, Miss Netherlands Jacqueline Steenbeek topped the Sports event, and Nepal’s Shrestha was recognized as Beauty with a Purpose.
Winners of the World Fashion Designer Award and The People’s Champion (through online voting; Megan is ranked No. 2 as of Sept. 25), the two remaining challenges, are set to be announced at the Miss World 2013 grand coronation night, Sept. 28.
