28 celebrities recognized in Korea culture, arts awards

A total of 28 personalities in the Korean entertainment industry were recognized for their contribution to the spread of Korean culture.

The 4th Republic of Korea Popular Culture and Arts Award ceremony was held on Nov. 18 at the Olympic Park Olympic Hall.


Six people were awarded the Order of Cultural Merit medals. Legendary singers Cho Yong Pil and Patti Kim, actor Ahn Sung-ki and comic actor Goo Bong-seo received the Eun-gwan Medal, the second highest award.


Scriptwriter Kim Jeong-soo and voice actor Lee Hye-Kyung also received medals.


The Presidential Citation Award went to film director Ryoo Seung-wan, actress Sunwoo Yong Nyeo, drama producer Song Byeong-jun, actor Lee Jeong-gil, musician Jeon Jeduk, musician Jung Seong-jo and singer Choi Heon.


Eight personalities received the Prime Minister’s Citation award. They are actor Kim Kap-soo, singer Kim Mok-kyung, comedian Kim Jiseon, voice actor Bak Il, musician Bae Suyeon, producer Seo Soo-min, singer Lee Seung-hwan and comedian Choi Yang-rak.


The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Awards went to girl groups SISTAR, Secret, comedian Kim Joon-ho, actor Shin Hyeon-joon, singer Eru, actress Jang Seo-hee and model Go Eung-yeong.


Last year, rapper Psy was awarded the Ok-gwan medal for increasing interest in Korea and K-pop music through his song “Gangnam Style.”


The awarding ceremony was organized by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).
