Exactly four decades since her reign, Miss Universe 1973 Margarita “Margie” Moran–Floirendo has high hopes that this year’s Pinay bet to the Miss Universe pageant, Ariella “Ara” Arida, could follow in her and Gloria Diaz’s footsteps.

In an interview with Bulletin Entertainment, Moran said Arida has the qualities of a Miss Universe – “She’s tall, she’s beautiful. I saw her, I met her.”

Even if she opts to use an interpreter should she make it to the Q&A round, Moran believes it will not diminish her chances of winning the coveted crown.

“It’s not a qualification to learn how to speak, to know English (to join or even win) but as long as she is able to communicate well,” she said.

The second Pinay Miss Universe advised the Laguna-born beauty to keep positive and seize the moment during her stay in Moscow, Russia.

“I wish her a lot of luck, stay beautiful. But my advice for her is to represent the country well and to enjoy the place where she is and the company of other candidates and just hope for the best,” Moran added.

She believes the journey is as important as the destination; that being there with the most beautiful women in the world is already an accomplishment for Arida.

Arida is tipped to clinch this year’s title after making waves in the preliminary competition. She has been dubbed an “online favorite.”
