Newbie actor Jun-Jun Quintana is taking big, calculated steps in his young career. He is being launched as a lead actor in the movie “Philippino Story,”an entry to the ongoing Cinema One Originals Independent Film Festival.
In the much talked about film directed by Benjamin Garcia, Jun-Jun takes on the role of Philip, a young male prostitute who forms a deep and serious romantic relationship with an older gay man. Veteran actor Mark Gil plays Jun-Jun’s lover, a former executive who opted for early retirement to focus on his passion for the arts.
Jun-Jun has been very patient for the past few years, waiting for his big cinema break. His first full feature film with Cinema One came by way of Joaqui Valdes’ “Dagim,” where Jun-Jun and his little brother Samuel were both cast as actors.
Getting a feel of acting for film, Jun-Jun auditioned for prolific filmmaker Adolf Alix, Jr. and was given a major support role in “Haruo,” which was starred and produced by Japanese actor Jacky Woo and was named the 2012 Best Film by the Young Critics’ Circle.
Critics wrote glowingly of Jun-Jun’s felt performance in the movie and this fired up the young actor. Industry insiders took notice and direk Adolf made sure Jun-Jun was included in his next film “Death March,” which eventually had its world premiere at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival in France.
Jun-Jun also bagged a major role in Eduardo Roy Jr.’s Cinemalaya film “Quick Change” where he beautifully essayed the character of a transvestite’s lover boy. Many are saying that Jun-Jun’s performance in that movie will definitely score nominations in next years various film awards.
Now comes “Philippino Story” and those who have seen the movie are one in saying that Jun-Jun delivered yet another strong performance, worthy of recognition.
Jun-Jun is also elated that after auditioning for some time, he has finally landed a regular role on a TV soap opera. He is cast in “The Legal Wife,” a new daily drama of ABS-CBN where he will have the likes of Rio Locsin, Angel Locsin, Mark Gil, Jericho Rosales, and Maja Salvador as co-actors.
“It’s a dream come true,” he said, adding, “Patience is always a virtue. A newcomer like me should be willing to wait it out, and be ready for rejections and disappointments. My manager Ricky Gallardo always reminds me to stay focused all the time and to just keep on pushing to reach for my dreams.”

New Beauty Tilts For Young Filipinas
Two new pageants were launched recently to promote Filipina beauty and talent and the protection of Mother Earth.
These are Miss Teen Earth Philippines and Little Miss Earth Philippines, which were launched in a press conference at Gandiva Café last Oct. 28. Vas Bismark, president of Captured Dream Productions and the pageants’ trademark owner, shares: “Miss Teen Earth Philippines and Little Miss Earth Philippines aim to reach out to young Filipinas and inspire them into thinking that beauty is not only a physical attribute but also an act of love. We want to spread awareness about the different environmental issues, organize activities to help preserve nature and be able to mobilize Filipinos to act with love and purpose in creating a cleaner, greener environment.”
The pageant, which bears the slogan “Our Nature, We Nurture,” is open to candidates from all over the country. A regional search will see contestants competing in four categories – casual wear, formal wear and regional costume made of recycled or organic materials. There will also be a question-and-answer portion. Regional winners will vie in the national competition. One non-finalist will have a chance to compete for the title as a wildcard candidate. The selection of the wildcard contestant will be done through online and text voting and will be announced at the Grand Pageant Night.
To qualify for Miss Teen Earth Philippines, one should be a Filipino citizen, 13 to 17 years old, single, and a resident of the municipality she will be representing for at least a year. Contestants for Little Miss Earth Philippines should be four to nine years old, currently enrolled in school or a home-based study program, and a resident of the municipality she will be representing for at least a year.
The Grand Pageant Night will be held in May 2014. Winners of Miss Teen Earth Philippines 2014 and Little Miss Earth Philippines 2014 will each receive R250,000 in cash and a talent contract courtesy of Captured Dream Productions. Miss Teen Earth will also receive funding for her proposed environmental project in her community.

“GMA Network’s “Pagbangon,” performed by Kapuso artist Julie Anne San Jose, is dedicated to provide hope amid the devastation brought by super typhoon Yolanda.
For only R25, “Pagbangon” can now be downloaded on OPM2GO. All proceeds will go to the survivors through GMA Kapuso Foundation.
The heart-rending official video of “Pagbangon” can also be viewed on YouTube. Each view corresponds to a certain amount that will also be donated to help all Kapuso in Eastern Visayas.
“Pagbangon” will also be available on iTunes and can be used as a ringback tone very soon.
