Renowned R&B artists Jay-R and Kris Lawrence are staging their first concert together titled “Soul Brothers” on Nov. 22 at the Music Museum.

All proceeds from the show will go to the Philippine National Red Cross, and Jay-R and Kris’s wish is for relief efforts to also reach other towns of Leyte that were badly damaged by typhoon Yolanda.

Jay-R found out about these towns from Mikka Javier, a recording artist and a good friend whose father, Sandy Javier, is mayor of Javier, Leyte.

“The whole town is wiped out. Properties worth hundreds of millions are all gone. The thing with Sir Sandy is that he is also responsible for 20 towns around the city,” Jay-R added.

He is proud that Mikka has already raised P500,000 just by herself. “Ang daming mga donations na mga pagkain and they delivered them right away kasi there’s no point of having donations if you can’t get it there right away,” he said.

Kris Lawrence shared that he and Jay-R would love to go to Leyte or Tacloban themselves after their concert and lend a helping hand.”Initial reaction ko after I saw the news gustong-gusto kong pumunta doon and really help because it’s really heartbreaking. Bilang kapwa Pinoy you really want to help first hand and really see what you can offer them. If ever we’d go there after the concert. We also want to hit up the areas na hindi masyadong natututukan kasi hindi lang ang Tacloban ang naapektuhan,” Kris said.

Jay-R would rather do the concert first before going there if needed.

“We want to help out and go there mismo but I think we would be more effective if we would do it through music muna. We could raise money and it would raise money and we could make a difference if malaki ang ma-raise namin,” Jay-R said.

According to ALV Events International, the producer of “Soul Brothers,” the show is a nostalgic musical treat for all generations. “Soul Brothers” will take its audience on a musical journey from the 60′s to the present.Jay-R and Kris single out some of the most memorable hits from each decade and give them their own respective renditions.

Moreover, the show takes a look at the friendship of Jay-R and Kris who started out as members of the high school boy band group First Impressions in Panorama City, California.

Jay-R revealed that “Soul Brothrrs” was the fastest concert they’ve ever put up together. And since there were already talks of him and Kris doing a concert together, it became an opportune time to do so especially since it was for a cause. They’re both excited to see their friends watch and hopefully even jam with them on stage.

Jay-R and Kris said that this show is their humble way of helping their poor brothers, be thankful, and able to help their brothers rise up from their misfortune and misery. Presented by Viber, “Soul Brothers” is part of “ViberHelps” fund-raising campaign for Typhoon Yolanda victims.

As Kris explained, “We want to harness the gift of song, and make it more meaningful by reaching out and empowering our less fortunate brothers with the gift of life.”

Why are they “soul brothers?”

Jay-R replied, “Because we are soulful singers, and because we grew up together in the same city and went to the same school, fifteen years, we’re in the same place halfway around the world, living in the same house, carving our careers in testament industry. Isn’t that great?”
