The “Yolanda” calamity that struck the Visayas region reminded Cristine Reyes of the traumatic experience she had at the height of typhoon “Ondoy” in 2009.
This is the reason it took her five days before mustering interest to watch the news about and videos of the recent super typhoon.
“Sinadya kong hindi manood dahil alam niyo namang traumatized pa rin ako hanggang ngayon,” the actress told ABS-CBNNews.
Recall that actor Richard Gutierrez rescued the actress and her family members at the rooftop of their house in Provident Village, Marikina City, after 12 hours of being stranded there during “Ondoy.”
Cristine turned emotional after watching the news about “Yolanda.”
“Gusto kong pumunta (sa Visayas) kasi umiiyak talaga ako noong nasa bahay ako nang mapanood ko siya… But, sabi ng kaibigan ko, not a good time to go there.”
The 24-year-old actress added: “Hindi ako makapaniwala na ganung klaseng pagsubok ang darating sa bansa natin… Kasi usually, napapanood natin ‘yon sa ibang bansa, na ganung kalakas”
As one of the “Ondoy” survivors, the “StarStruck” alumna has words of advice for typhoon victims.
“Siyempre, wala namang tayong ibang matatakbuhan kundi yung nasa Itaas lang, mag-pray lang.”
