ABS-CBN broadcaster Korina Sanchez denied on Tuesday that she had gone on vacation or had been suspended by management following her controversial word war with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper last week.
“Yang mga ispekulasyon na yan, hindi naman totoo yan,” she said via phone patch on “Rated Korina”, her daily morning talk show on DZMM, the Kapamilya network’s AM radio station, which ABS-CBN reporter Jasmin Romero had been hosting on her behalf since Thursday.
Sanchez said she had been absent from “TV Patrol”, ABS-CBN’s early evening newscast, since Friday because she was busy taping episodes about disaster-stricken areas for her weekly magazine show “Rated K”.
“Gumagawa rin kasi ang ‘Rated K’ ng special para dito sa mga nasalanta, so pinupuntahan ko ang Western Visayas,” said the 49-year-old, who drew the ire of many netizens last November 13 after she criticized Cooper’s coverage of the dire situation in Tacloban, Leyte five days after the city was destroyed by supertyphoon Yolanda.
Sanchez, who co-anchors “TV Patrol” with former Vice President Noli de Castro and one-time Leyte congressman Ted Failon, said she had planned to fly to Tacloban the next day as Cooper had urged her in his retort, but ABS-CBN officials dissuaded her due to safety issues.
“Pinigilan naman kami ng kumpanya dahil delikado daw. So, na-divert kami sa Ormoc. Nagdalawang-araw ako doon,” she explained.
Sanchez told Romero that she was headed to Capiz later on Tuesday, to be followed by trips to Iloilo and Palawan. She also might squeeze in a trip to Mindoro if her schedule would permit it.
She said footage of all her trips will be aired this Sunday on “Rated K”.
“Inaayos ko lang itong for airing namin, ‘etong darating na Sunday. So, ayun, uulitin ko lang, matagal nang naiplano itong paglilibot na ito. Huwag lang sanang pilit na ikinokonekta sa iba pang bagay, ha?” she said.
Sanchez did not directly refer to her word war with Cooper. She also did not mention his name.
