Slowly but surely establishing itself as pop music purveyors of note is fast-rising band Kley with their new single “Hintayin” now making inroads on local radio.

A video for the single has also been released recently, quickly earning positive response from audiences. Even more so with R&B Prince Jay-R lending it some star power.

Jay-R himself considers his collaboration with the band very much “instinctive” despite their musical styles being poles apart. He thinks it’s a no-brainer, in fact.

Apparently a supporter of Kley from day one, Jay-R signed the group his Homeworkz label last year, paving way for the release of the group’s eponymous debut album that he also produced.

According to Jay-R, he sees a possibility in the group hitting it big. He collaborated with band singer Deejay Poblete, incidentally his niece, and band songwriter-guitarist Noah Zuñiga for the first Philippine Pop Music Festival.

Poblete, for her part, gaining public notice is nothing new having joined “Pinoypop Superstar” in 2007.

“I didn’t win but it only served to further fuel my passion to get my music heard,” says Poblete of the experience.

Early this year, Poblete got her wish with Kley’s debut single “Tsismosa” making it to the Myx charts and staying there for months.

Jay-R described Kley’s sound as an amalgam of varied influences. “They are a pop band but some of their other songs are a mix of rock and jazz,” he pointed out.

And this is how he markets them as well: “fresh, young and rock-ish.”

Jay-R says he intends to see to it that the band – which also counts bassist Geo Blones, lead guitarist Rey Corcelles and drummer Ralph Ruiz as members – achieve their full potential by helping them reach a wide audience.

“They are constantly giging around the Metro. They just finished Padis and Cowboy Grill tour. Next up is a mall tour,” he shared.

Jay-R proudly relates that the band is now even gaining notice on international shores.

“Although Kley has only been out in the market for only a few months their music is already in international radio,” he intimated, noting how the band is currently getting “a lot of love” even in far-away Guam and in the US.

With their band name a play on the word clay, surely molding together their passion would prove beneficial to their bid at mainstream success.
